I am a happily married mother of three and just moved to Miami, FL from Chesapeake, VA. Living down here is alot different. We finally found jobs and are currently staying with family. Does anyone know of apartments or townhouse that are affordable. We have three girls so we would need a three bedroom. I don't want to stay in a high crime area some place with good schools and quiet area. I am currently in the 33015 area and the schools my children are in are nice. I like the area but there are alot of condos (or higher priced apartments). I'm looking for something in the range of $800-$850 range if that is even fiesable. I would appreciate your responses.

Hi L. -

I live in the Miami area as well (North Miami near FIU) . May I ask what specific area you are in so I can better direct you? Your girls are going to need a good and safe high school for next year, so I want to make sure you have that information as well.

Speaking from experience, Florida is NOT like any other state -- although there are beautiful beaches, there seems to be a lack of common sense down here ;) It can most frustrating - grrrrrr. I'm originally from Texas, so you can kiss southern hospitality goodbye.

I have a 12yr old boy :)

Namaste,

Welcome! We are here from Blacksburg, so you are right, this is a major change!!!! Where are your jobs? Many things are cheaper in Broward County than in Miami-Dade, especially car insurance!

If you can look in Broward, depending on where your jobs are...Pembroke Pines and Weston might offer what you are looking for...Other ideas, Plantation and Davie. Consider contacting a realtor and ask about renting a townhome or a condo or even a house rather than going with an apartment rental community. We rented a townhouse in Cooper City (3/2) for $1200/month from an individual owner. Good luck!

Hi L.,

Welcome to Florida. I too am from VA but from Fairfax, VA. Major difference living here in Florida, weather is BEAUTIFUL but the people, majority are very rude, inconsiderate and drive like maniacs. Anyhow not sure where your job is but I live down in Homestead (288th Street) and the neighborhood is very nice, safe and family oriented. I rent a 4bdr/2.5 ba townhome for $1350 a mth. Although I know there are plenty of townhomes for rent in my neighborhood starting $1200 +. It's called the Waterstone Community (water way) 137th ave/288th Street. My daughter goes to Air Base Elementary which is been rated an A school. I will say my mornings are a little hectic since I work in Coral Gables. Well I hope you find something soon, good luck...

Hi, My name is jacquie, Have you tried craigslist.org or theflyer.com, Instead of having to move into an apartment you can move to a rented house, more privacy with your own rules, for a three bed roon the cheapest I've seen was around 1500 a month :D
