So tomorrow is my ACL surgery. I am actually quite pleased with my surgeon, lots of options, lots of hope for a fast recovery...but.....
My surgery isn't until 12:30 and I cannot eat or drink all morning. Now I have made it long periods of time without eating or drinking but since I was in labor at the time I kinda had no choice.
So anyone out there have ideas of how I can do it. It is not so much that I have no will power, my fear is without thinking I grab a glass of water because I am thirsty. I don't really want to run around the house putting sticky notes on everything I shouldn't touch but that is the best I got.
Any ideas?
Edit: Oh guys it is so cute, Troy is sitting there reading everything he can find on my surgery and rehab. I knew there was a reason I loved that man. :)
I love the stay up late, sleep late...not sure if I can pull it off though, I am a morning person.....hum....then again I may be able to get Troy to kick the kids to the curb that way. I mean it is for my knee right? Not that I would love to sleep in. :p
SH, yes Troy will be driving me both ways. It is just when I said I need to get there at 11:30 so when I get settled you can run off and get some lunch, well, his first words were oh good cause I was just thinking that time sucks for getting lunch on the way. We are two peas in a pod.
Stay up super late tonight watching movies etc and then sleep until 11! Good luck!!!

Chew gum (keeps your mouth moist)
Show up to the hospital early with a book (or movie viewer)
While I usually agree with most things Riley says...
When I went in for surgery a month and a half ago they asked me if I had chewed gum...thankfully I had not. She said that if I had then they would have had to reschedule my surgery. My surgery was to remove a gallbladder, so I don't know if there is a difference in what you are allowed to eat, drink, or chew. You may want to call and ask so you don't accidently do something you are not supposed to do.
With your question...I am sure that you wont grab a glass of water without thinking. For some reason I always over think things too, and then when the time comes I realize that I can't STOP thinking about the thing I am anxious about. I am sure you will be thinking about your surgery all morning!

Basically you dont eat or drink because you might get nauseated during anesthesia I think. I know that usually when we (my husband or I) are having things done that require no food or drink prior to the event, nurses have told us that a few sips of water are not gonna ruin anything. So, if you find yourself accidentally sipping it probably wont be that big of a deal. I think I would wake up early and eat and drink and then go back to bed and wake up right before surgery time :)
Put a piece of tape on your upper lip...
J., all my best to you going through the surgery. Honestly, all the stuff beforehand when you get to the surgery center is the worst part of it. When you wake up, it's all over. Let that wonderful man of yours wait on you hand and knee. Har har!!!!

I had an emergency C-Section... after eating a huge lunch b/c they were going to induce my labor! First question the anesthesiologist asked? Have you eaten anything in the last 12 hours. Um... yes. Her biggest concern was that I would be sick from the anesthesia and throw-up/aspirate. Second concern is that your body metabolizes the medications differently if you have food in your stomach versus an empty stomach.
I found out the "hard way" that I'm allergic to morphine... next time I'll fast before delivery just in case!
Is anyone else home/around... to REMIND you? And drive you there and back home?
