I am in need of an air cleaner for our house. I feel like I could dust all day and it still would not be clean. We buy good filters for our furnace and clean daily but it does not help. Wondering if anyone has had any luck with an air cleaner.

What can I do next?

Hello E., It sounds like your heat ducts need to be cleaned out. You wouldn't believe all of the stuff that collects in them, then gets blown around the house each time the furnace kicks on. Good luck.

You should have your air ducts cleaned. Call Safety King at 1-800-AIRDUCT. They are the best in Michigan.

Hi E.,

We use an Airsource which is made from Shaklee. It was rated #2 in Consumer Reports last year, and there is no filter just a module you change one time per year. If you would like more information please contact me at ____@____.com or ###-###-####.

Thanks,
A.

My son has numerous breathing issues. We have several furnace filters and still have difficulty with dust. My husband did a fair amount of research before our purchase. We have a Holmes model HAP756. It has Hepa filtration with replaceable filters that you can see when the dusts collects. We purchased it at Target. It has cut down on the amount of dust in our house.

You still need to get the ducts cleaned for heat as well as air conditioning.

Hope this helps!

Wait until winter is over and your furnace is off. If you notice a huge decrease in the dust then you need your ducts cleaned.

E.,

For an inexpensive air cleaner I use a box fan with a whole house filter taped to the out-take side. I have seasonal allergies that last spring, summer, and fall, so we usually keep the house buttoned up during these seasons and run two of these air cleaners, one in my bedroom and one down-stairs in our living room. We also don't have forced air, only radiators, you would be shocked to see how much dirt is floating around in your air!

I hope this helps.

By the way, the whole house filter is supposed to be changed once per month, you could be having dirty air problems if this has not been done. If you use the box fan cleaner you will also need to change the air filter once per month as well.

Have you thought about getting your ducts cleaned? We live in an older house and the former owner had several pets, so a year or two after we moved in, we had our ducts cleaned. It made a world of difference! Be sure to do your research about getting the ductwork cleaned, though-- there are some scams out there.
Good luck.

I have an air purifier and have had it for 8 years now. Has really helped us with allergies and keeping colds/flu and such at bay.

Initially there was a lot of dust as it cleaned the air, but then the dust subsided. I still have to dust, but not as often.

I will not be without it, especiall since there is a golf course across the street. We know there are a lot of chemicals on the golf courses, which is in the air, and I sure don't want those chemicals in my house.
