Air Mattress or Twin Mattress for My Parents?

My whole family is coming here this weekend (yay!). We don't have a guest room, so I am having to be creative as far as sleeping arrangements for everyone. So my parents will be sleeping in my daughter's room. They are 60 years old. Which is going to be more comfortable for them....an air mattress on the floor or one on my daughter's twin and one on the son's twim mattress on the floor in the same room. The mattresses are admittedly cheap mattresses. The air mattress is, well, an air mattress. It's not super cheap, but it's not over the top expensive. (If it were up to me they'd sleep on mine and hubby's bed, but hubby says "No Way.") If I ask them, they will be totally ambivalent, they are just happy to be here.

What can I do next?

If my hubby wouldn't give up his bed for the night (how ridiculous) then I would ask him to pay for a hotel for them. I wouldn't make my parents sleep on air mattresses or a mattress on the floor. Neither is comfortable.

My husband and I are 44 and 43 respectively. We have a very good air mattress. I can assure you in the morning no amount of pain killers help with the pain. They suck! I would go with the mattresses.

my MIL has difficulty with her back, so getting up from an air mattress on the floor is difficult for her and her husband. Now we put the mattress over the air mattress, it's higher and they are able to get up with better ease. Enjoy your holiday and guests :)

how bout footing for a hotel room? Might be even better. That in my honest opinion is too low on the floor and too low class to be doing to 60 year old parents. Especially if one of them has any medical issues or needs to use the bathroom frequently. Getting off the floor is so difficult for even middle age people. Can you rent a pull out couch or something from a furniture store?

we always set up the air mattresses on the kids beds and took their twin matteress and set it up for the bed for our guests. It worked great and the kids are lighter and more durable to handle the air mattress. So I say give them the good mattresses.

I would go with the mattresses. The biggest issue is that one of them is going to be down low on the floor. Getting up from the floor is a more considerable issue for someone "of age" than the slight difference between a "real" mattress and an air one. And with the mattresses, one won't have to deal with the floor, so they can work that out between the two of them. And the one that is on the floor, will be easier to get up from than an air mattress on the floor. Trust me on that.

And for what it's worth, I agree with your husband. We have never given up OUR bed for another houseguest. And I would not sleep in the master bedroom/bed as a guest at someone else's home either. I'd get a hotel if that were my only choice to avoid it. It just isn't right, in my opinion.

Regular mattresses...and give the kids sleeping bags on the floor...it's called Christmas camping! :)

I got one of the air mattresses(queen size) that have a stand so it sits up about the same as a regular bed. I also put a matress topper on it to make it a little more comfortable. I got it all at Wal-mart for about 100.

Mattress.

I find two on an air mattress is super uncomfortable. One person is always rolling to the inside - if not both of you.
