Hi there-
My kids were recently diagnosed with allergies to dust and mold. I am learning about what I can do to keep their home environment as allergen free as possible. Has anyone used an air purifier and if so can you recommend something appropriate for bedroom use. I do not want to break the bank but if an air purifier really can make a difference for them I would like to know which ones are best and why. Any other recommendations for how to keep my house clean and dust free or thoughts on what else could help my kids?? Thanks and have a nice day.

What can I do next?

I just recently had a baby and I've been driving myself nuts trying to keep my house clean and cleaning off the dust. I found it's better to open your windows in the house while the weather is still warm. That lets it more breathable then cleaning the house every day and having to inhale the cleaning products. Also found baby wipes works pretty good at removing dust rather than using pledge which makes the air more tolerable. Air purifiers don't really work that well unless you have one in every room. Also change your air filters in your home every month. That helps

You would have to do your research on them. I have tried many different kinds of purifiers and they just don't work. These were reasonably priced ones too. You may need to look at more spendier ones. You can try the allergen free furnace filters for the house, those seem to help better. Just really keep things dust free.

We have two idyliss ones and they are wonderful. They have a hepa filter and a carbon filter. We use a wood stove for heat, so we partly got them since we sometimes will get a little smoke in the house. Our dog is allergic to the wood smoke and will drool, but with the purifiers no problems. We also have had family visit that is very allergic to cats, we have three, and they have not had any issues while here and said without seeing the cats, they would not have know they were here.

Air purifiers absolutely make a difference. We have one purifier that does our whole house and now that we have it, I don't care to do without.

We have a FreshAir by EcoQuest. Well worth the expense to me! It kills mold! After the extreme flooding our state has been through this last month.....I can't tell you how valuable it is! We had water in our basement and have ZERO mold compared to our friend's houses.

Also, with our purifier, we have noticed that we are not sick very much and our son's allergies are GREATLY alleviated.

Good luck in your search!

Love my 3M Filtrete air filter. It's in my daughter's room - she too has dust and mold allergies. I am amazed at how disgusting the filter is after 2 1/2 to 3 months.

We have an allergen mattress zip cover for her, hardwood floor in her room with a small area rug, we don't open windows cuz the pollen and dust just flies in. We also use vent filters on every floor vent in the house and we are soon going to have our air ducts cleaned.

I've used the honeywell quiet airpurifier for 10 yrs and it works great and helps my allergy and my breathing big time. Also, remove carpet if you have one and go with linoleum or hardwood floors, lots of dust and allergens live in the carpet that we end up breathing. You'll see a difference once you've had the purifier for a while.

No, air pruifiers are great. You don't have to have one in every room int he house--- that's ridiculous and will cost you. I got a $30 Holmes one for the master bedroom, since my son still sleeps in there with me and hubby. We got it because my asthma and allergies are awful, and LO seems to always be congested. I got it at Wal-Mart. You can just tell the air is cleaner, and he breathes better too. Opening your window could bring other allergens into the house, like pollen and whatnot. But, I do agree I'm also driving myself crazy trying to keep dust-free--- it's hard! We have wood floors in the kitchen and living area....it's a nightmare! I wish I could help you with that, but I'm still trying to figure it out...
