Don't know what kind of Honda you have, but the manual of my CRV says I can't put anything under the seats, as that would interfere with the deployment of the side air bags. Do you have anything under the seat?
Hi Moms/Dads.
I just noticed that my 2009 Honda with 41000 miles on it has the side airbag light come on and stay on indicating that it needs to get checked out. The car for the most part is out of warranty (3year/36,000 mile) warranty. But I find it annoying that an expensive safety system is having problems this early, does anyone have any experience on whether Honda would cover fixing any problems with the airbag system? I will fix it regardless, but the safety of the car is a large reason I bought the car.
Thanks
thanks for all of the helpful tips. Now the light has gone off....ugh, it could be that the sensor got wet, we had heavy rain here in Southern California. I read the manual and it said that if the light stays on after driving to take it to get it checked out. I re-arranged all of these appointments to bring my car in the following week and now, the light has gone off. I will also check under my seat as one mom mentioned. No recalls on this car as of now, this is an Odyssey by the way, I checked the website.

call Honda. Our car is out of warranty as well - but Honda repairs safety issues like air bags - all the time. We just got a recall notice on a safety problem with the CR-V....yes, it's recall - however, when we had a problem with our other Honda with the airbag - Honda fixed it for free. No recall.
Just take it in and have it looked at. So far as I know the only part of your safety system that is forever under warranty is the seat belts.
it may just need to be checked, or the light might of malfunctioned. just take it in and have them look at it
Well...you're going to have to call & ask O. way or the other, right?
Good luck!
Call your local dealership service department and ask what safety restraint warranty your particular vehicle has. If you are out of warranty it could very well be a part of a recall. If so, in most cases you won't pay. If you have moved or a second or third owner, the dealer may not know where to find you to send you the notice.
This may not be your vehicle or problem, but take a look.

Go to your dealer and have it checked out. You never know... they have the ability to override an expired warranty if they deem it necessary.
My daughter's 07 Mercedes CLK is out of warranty but on the yearly service, something was wrong with the battery which was out of warranty, BUT, they said it should not be that way and she got a new battery at no charge because they overrode the system and demmed it necessary.
Just ask.. you never know.
i would call honda and find out.. did u check the owners manual about why the light would be on.. it could just be the light itself and not the air bag .. the acura my mom used to have the light would come on randomly and she couldnt figure out why... i did though.. if i sat weird in the passenger seat and/or leaned on the door the light would come on .. if i sat normal for a few minutes it would go off and not come back on .. does it come on when someones sitting there or if theres noone in the seat?
