Aluminum Free Deodorant That Actually Works?

Hi, ya'll. I was wondering if any of you moms have found a natural, aluminum-free deodorant that works? With the connections that have been made between aluminum and Alzheimer's, I'd love to ditch the conventional deodorant in favor of a natural one, but so far have yet to find one that will last the day. Any recommendations?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the recommendations! Like some of you, I had tried Tom's and wasn't impressed. But y'all have given me lots of suggestions to work with. I appreciate the help.

I use the mineral salt spray and add essential oil to it for scent. It works pretty well for me. We've noticed that it doesn't work as well for my husband when he gets really stressed--he gets too toxic and that makes his body odor worse. After a couple of ionic foot baths, though, it solves the problem and works for him as well.

Hi G.,

I use Melaleuca brand Body Satin deoderant. It works great. Aluminum is what keeps you from sweating so this is not an antiperspirant. You won't find an antiperspirant that doesn't have aluminum. This one does keep the odor away and sometimes when I don't shower right away in the morning it lasts a little longer than a day. I'm not a heavy sweater....

Some medical professionals believe excessively sweaty armpits are caused by on overactive nervous system. The Chinese believe it is caused by disharmony and have had success treating it with acupuncture. Overactive nervous system and disharmony could honestly be the same cause...good nutrition and chiropractic can help as well. I know you didn't ask that question but thought I'd throw you some extra info...:)

God bless!

We use Tom's deodorant. Its reasonably priced at Walmart. It really didn't work for me at first but if you keep using it, it will. Its amazing what your body will respond to. Good for you for making the switch!

My hubby and I both use Tom's. In the heat of summer we sometimes feel the need to re-apply mid-day but overall I am very satisfied. I even used to sweat excessively and use clinical anti-perspirents and since switching my excessive sweating has stopped. Go figure!

My mom and sister swear by the crystal deodorants. I don't like it though, because I don't always shave my underarms and the little holes in the crystal pull my hairs out, ouch!

did you know that it is the aluminum that causes the yellow stains on white shirts as well? I tried Tom's when I found this out. Didn't work though-sweat too much.

I make my own with coconut oil, baking soda, and arrowroot or cornstarch. You can google "coconut oil baking soda deodorant" and a bunch of recipes come up. This way there are no chemicals going into your body at all.

Alum (a salt) comes in a deodorant stick. Works better than any of the others I've tried. Have had no luck with Tom's unfortunately. Arm and Hammer also makes one. Try Vitamin Cottage or Whole Foods.

Lemongrass deodorant is lovely. Your body will need to adjust to not having an antiperspirant. I have tried Toms but it also has ingredients that I don't want next to my body. I don't sell Lemongrass, but here is the link to the person I do buy from:

I like adiddas (yes like the sports brand) I sweat the same b/c it's just deoderant, but it generally keeps the smell under control...though from my understanding a certian amount of smelliness is caused by diet..
Remember that deo is different from antiperspirant...so if you need or want something to prevent sweating and not just smell nice then you have to stick with convention.

Trader Joe's brand is aluminum free and it works. We used Tom's of Maine for awhile but my husband hated it; didn't work and I have to agree with him.
