My son is 4 months old and has an amangioma between his right eye and his nose. It is about 1/2 inch long and resembles a music key (somewhat). It is dark red and puffy. I was offered by an ENT which does head and neck surgeries also to take care of him, but I cant afford to take off of work and bring him almost 2 hours to the doctor. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.. I have seen a pediatrician for this and he doesn't seem to concerned and he is thinking of cosmetics only. I am concerned for his growing up and being tormented by other children but I am more concerned for his health and vision. This is something that I was forcing on my own. I want to take care of this before it gets out of hand.

I am NOT saying I dont or cant take off of work to take him but if anyone has any sort of input as to what sort of doctor I should see, would be great! If anyone other than me has any time on their hands to help me find the proper doctor, it would be greatly appreciated!

As far as Katie F who left a response.... what you left was absolutely uncalled for! I am a barely surviving single mother fighting illnesses all 3 of my kids have ALONE.... you should never tell a mother if she isn't willing to take off of work (her only way of survival). If you have ugly comments like that, don't leave them for me! To show how Shallow and sad some people can be.... this Katie left me a message stating just this.... "We create the life that we lead. You should have chosen the father of your children more wisely." What can we gather from this?? Shallowness or just plain pathedic?

What can I do next?

Well S., i dont have any other suggestions but i could say that i was like you before and i said that i didn't have time to take off, but i soon realized that my job and co workers are gonna be here and my children are the most important things in my life. So i hope that you find a better solution rather than taking off from work but remember who is most important. good luck.

One of my daughters had two at birth, one on top of her head and one on her back. They have both faded and disappeared on their own. The one on her head was raised and puffy, but they were more like a strawberry markings. But neither were dark red. I think it is more bothersome to us than to them. I can't say his will dissappear on his own with it being dark. But just letting you know they can. She is 13 now and they have been gone for a long long time. His is in a more obvious and pronounced place, so I understand wanting to take care of it. But maybe you don't have to rush it.

Sometimes hemangiomas (benign tumor of blood vessels) resolve on their own up to a certain age...but I'm not sure what age that is. If they don't go away on their own most of the time doctors recommend removal b/c they can grow quite large and obstruct vision/breathing, etc depending on their location and for cosmetic reasons. You could do a google search or a webMD search on hemangioma. You might want to ask your pediatrician about it too.

Hey I don't know doctors or how I could help you but I will say hang in there. My mother was a single parent of three and one of my older brothers was born with water on the brain and was pretty much an infant for the rest of his life. He lived to be 21. ther were times she had two jobs to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads. I was only a single mom part of the time I got lucky my son's father and I worked out our problems and are happily married but the short time I was doing it on my own it was hard and I only had 1. I think to myself everyday about how strong of a women my mother must have been and can't seem to figure out her secrets on how she did it all. Granted my mom worked a lot but never did I think we were not her 1ST priority and I know your kids are yours. My mom always told me sometimes she just had to take that chance BUT it always came together eventually. She also had support from her parents to help her when they could. I hope it works out for you and your kids. Keep your head up and be positive I am sure you will find the strength and the answers to your problem.

Wouldn't your employer be willing to work with you if it's for your child? Could you work a Saturday instead of a weekday? Is there a friend that could take him to the doctor for you (maybe in your car)? SOME hemangiomas do go away, but it's usually the "stork bites" that do. The one he has sounds big and permanent. Has it grown? If it has, it will probably continue to grow and should be taken off while he's young. Kid's skin heals so much better when they're infants, and he won't remember the surgery at all. If you wait, the hemangioma may obstruct his vision. I'm not sure if you're implying that the ENT would do this surgery for free, but if you are . . . I would jump on that offer! Those surgeries aren't cheap and they're fairly extensive. Anyways - I would start with my employer and friends if I were you. Good luck!

If you don't see about this it will only get worse. I have several members of my family with this. One family member even died from one that was internal. If you are not willing to sacrifice time off from your work to see about your children then maybe you should not have had them. Tell your boss about your situation. I am sure you both can figure something out.

Have you talked to your job about your situation? Talk to your supervisor. There has to be a solution. When I was a supervisor, I would allow single parents to skip lunches to make up time like this. This might be an option for you. Don't give up and think out of the box.

God Bless you and your family.

Whatever the inconvenience to your job and budget, you must put your child's needs first. It could cause other issues for your son if it's left untreated, especially since it's puffy and so close to his eye. Please find a way to get your son to the doctor.

My son also has a hemangioma. It is on his nose. I'm not sure how much research you have done on the internet but... most are just cosmetic. Also almost all will go away on their own, with out scarring. So I would not worry about it.

Also the Nations expert on vascular birthmarks is here in Little Rock at childrens hospital. He will not remove unless, it is under the skin. or blocks vision or breathing.

Do research, take pictures to watch its growth, and after seeing your own ped you still feel like it some one else needs to see it or want it to be taken off then see a specialist at Children's who only work with vascular birthmarks.
