hello mamas, this is both qs and a vent. i live in south central los angeles which is the "ghetto" of L.A. my neighboors are having a party (more like a concert), and its loaded with juveniles and god knows what. its 2:26am and you think they would be done by now? i have been there and done that (the party, the raves, etc...) but never this late. i called the cops 3 times within 3 hours not one has arrived. now i would not have called if it was just music, drinking, and something civil. what got me mad and really annoyed was the fact that, not only did these people chose to block my drive way, but were snorting coke right next to my childs window and urinating into my property and when called on there behavior had the nerve to answer " shut the f*x up you old lady". excuse me?? i did not say anything in return, why lower myself to that child like manner. im just so irritated that just because i live in an urban community which is used to crime and this type of chaos the police pays no importance to a resident like me. steryo types are right majority of the time. its sad for me to say that individuals who reside in communities such as mine (not all) are the only ones to blame for the negative perceptions and the lack of respect that is given. its now 2:39 and still no cops...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thbk you Ladies for your support. The party ended at 4ish and still they continued with an after party. I made it nice and clear that there was drug use and weapons as well as minors drinking and violating curfew. The cops did not seem to care, mind or qs. Im so disappointed in the authorities went about this. How can we move on from being a community with High crime and drug activity if the ones who are named to put order dont?

Honestly, it sounds like you need to move. I'm not sure you are going to be able to change all of the dynamics and party culture in your neighborhood. If you don't want to switch schools, perhaps find a house or apt. that has the same school district.

I know moving is expensive, but this sounds dangerous.

I'm in northern ca in a nice neighborhood with other types of neighbor problems, but thank goodness not the ones you're describing. I'm sorry, no one should have to deal with that. I have no answers, but many younger persons these days have no respect--none for property, adults, themselves even.

I teach (I guess I should say taught) and witness that in the classroom with second grade students children masterbating and writing notes about kissing and having sex (SECOND GRADE!!!).

Anyhow, I'm awake and have been, because I was fired Friday from that teaching job. I'm an at will employee (Charter School stuff), so I was given no reason. I'm sure it's because I couldn't ""control the students. How about the parents taking responsibility and having my back? No way.

Good luck future America.

and Good luck to you with your neighbors--I hope the party's over by now and you're getting some sleep.

That sucks. :( I have no advice for you, but I can commiserate.

It's 4:47 am where I am, and I'm awake, because I'm at work.

I've just told a 17-year-old girl for the, oh, 12th time this evening that she CANNOT be in the bed with her 17-year-old boyfriend (our patient), and that she most *definitely* cannot be "massaging" his nether regions under his pajamas, and would they PLEASE remember that there is a camera in his room so we can see ALL that goes on at all times? And the response, which her boyfriend wrote out for me (because he can't talk) was "F** off B****." Yup.

Hello, I have no answers for you, just sympathy. If it is possible, maybe you should move to another neighborhood. This sounds awful and dangerous. I don't understand why the police won't do anything about it especially with the drug use.
Good luck with your precious family.

I am so sorry.. Is it illegal that they are blocking your drive way? Maybe call a tow company. Would it help to install a security camera or motion sensor lights all around.

Just wanted to say than ks for staying. It's the exodus from the "bad" areas that allow the cancer to spread unchecked. More people like you need to give a s*&t and RE-CLAIM their neighborhoods!

so unfortunate. I'm sorry :(

I used to live in south central and I once called the cops because a gang showed up at my home and broke all the windows with bricks to scare us into honoring their "sovereignty".

The police told me, no joke, to make nice with the gang members because there wasn't much they could really do and if they DID press charges on any few members, then the others would make me and my family a target. They said it was in our best interest to just fix the windows and move on.

Unfortunately in Los Angeles there are any number of reasons why police won't respond to a call. I heard on NPR that we are one of the most corrupt cities in the world in terms of what's going on behind the curtain of the government (politics, police, etc.). :(

Very sad. I'm sorry. And I know moving isn't always a possibility so I hope your neighbors move soon!

Did you tell them drugs were involved? I've always said if I really need an officer pronto, I'm gonna say drugs are involved even if they're not. Nothing peaks a cops interest like possible drug use/movement. Its unfortunate in our society, IMO, that we have to play the system that way. I'm sure I'll get slammed for this, but I don't have faith in our police force. Serve and protect? That motto has fallen to the wayside.
