What about renewing your Vows?
Or, paint him a painting!
Friday is our 4 year anniversary, I know 4 is an odd year to want to celebrate, it's not a big one like 5 or 10 years, but it means alot to us. Year 3 was a tough one and we are back in a good place again so I want to splurge and celebrate for once. With me being a SAHM it's not easy to buy or plan something without him finding out since we share our checking account. My in-laws have offered to watch our 2 kids Friday night so I can try to plan something. The usual 'dinner and a movie' really isn't appealing to me, getting a hotel room is out of the budget sadly. Any ideas?

I'm quite often on a budget myself, what I did yesterday was take him to lunch, in your case dinner at a place of his choice, I wore a nice thong & bra (that I bought at Wal Mart!!! they have some nice things if you look~though I would never tell him that! lol) And tantilize during dinner, go home and spend a few hours in bed, take a nap together and pick up the kids if you have to. Or you can make him dinner, put on some of you favorite tunes & dim the lights. It will be what you make it, regardless of where go, what you do or what you wear.
My husband and I celebrated our 1st anniversary a little early. Even though our 1 year was last Feb. 18th we celebrated it in July of 2009 only 5 months after we were married because he was home on R&R (He was deployed and got to come home for vacation) He has been talking to a restaurant manager at Bahama Breeze and had worked something out. Little did I know the entire dinner, a couple alcoholic drinks and dessert were paid for by the manager. I am not sure if you can do that but I think since my husband was deployed and going back had something to do with it. not sure though. Then we stayed the night in a hotel (Which I know you said was out of your budget.) I would go with setting up a nice romantic setting in your house and make his favorite dinner, then maybe a romantic bubble bath with rose peddles and a nice time in bed hahaha :) Hope that helped.
you would be surprised on what kind of sexy undie sets you can find at Burlington clothing store....but i agree with the sexy dinner and romantic night a home alone without the kids and with the sexy undies!!!
Don't know if this would be worth your drive or not, but this might help

make him his favorite dinner, get some chocolate covered strawberries and some champain and a sexy nighty and do your make up and hair and maybe rent a movie or two and just have a romantic night in without the kiddos
is he the kind of guy that would like it if you wrote him a love letter??
I bet he might like to have a scavenger hunt clue number one a tthe door leads to dinner, clue number 2 in the dessert leads to the bed room??
Could you make some sort of a board game of your life ? it could be sweet or it could be more like strip poker?
It might be kind of late for this year- unless you want to put off celebrating until a little bit later- but I have been looking at coupon websites that give you about half off or better deals for restaurants and gifts, and saving them for my anniversary. Websites like groupon, hotsauce, and livingsocial. We have certificates for Jakes Steaks (my husbands favorite restaurant) a wine basket, and a horse drawn carriage ride for our anniversary, and it has cost us about $60.
