I just don't know how to shop for a doll. I have gone out of my way to find the softest one, the ones with the cooled accessories, or the one with a pleasant face, or that do tricks, but it seems that no matter what I pick, the doll they end up attaching themselves to has nothing about it that I can put my finger on. So now I buy pretty basic baby dolls and still, they take to some and not others. Anyways after much love (and pen marks), and loosing some, we are due for new dolls, but I don't want to waist my money. Do your girls reject a lot of dolls before they find one they love? Any one have a recommendation?
Update: they ARE into dolls. But we are down to scroungy ones. Maybe it bothers me more than them and I should just buy cool doll accessories for their scroungy looking dolls. They seem to love doll cribs so maybe a changing table? High chair? You never know. I spent an arm and a leg on a doll house (because she loved the neighbor girls' doll house) and it collects dust.
I agree that its nice to let them pick things out. But i do as much as I can on-line, so not sure how a two year old is going to help me on -line shop. As for the Corolle suggestion, thanks. They sell them on Amazon which is a plus. It got great reviews and If i stick to the no frills doll its not all that expensive ($40). Its in my cart. Making final decisions when hubby has time to look with me.
The corolle doll is ordered. I took the advice to let her pick it out and put her up the the screen to select from three dolls. She picked the $70 doll instead of the $40 doll. who's bright idea was that?

Let the girls pick out their own dolls. I was never a big doll girl, I mostly liked stuffed animals. Maybe yours aren't big into dolls either.
I've never been able to pinpoint why they like some dolls over others. And then the dolls fall in and out of favor. Same goes for stuffed animals. Who knows?! I would just pick ones that you like and that don't make noises you can't stand! Or ones that are different from ones they already have. Letting them pick their own is not a bad idea. Good luck. :-)
My girls hate dolls.
But when I was little, I always went for the baby dolls that 'felt' real when I held them.

My girls recieved bitty babies when they were younger...and they love these dolls. They are very well made. Good thing is if they get too worn...you can send them to the doll hospital and they come back like new (and in a hospital gown). Expensive but so worth it.
I know the Corelle dolls are nice too. We have a couple of those for the bath tub. My oldest daughter recieved her doll when she was maybe 2...and she is going to be 8 now and she still has the doll. Has not made a trip to the doll hospital, thank goodness. And the doll does get played with...even now ( her and my 5 year old play together).
Let your daughters choose it.
That is, IF they even want, a doll and/or doll house.
I have a girl. And a Mom can never guess, what they would like. Then one day they like a certain one, then the next day, they don't.
If they still like their ratty ones, then fine.
I would not doll shop or doll house shop, unless they actually want one or another one.
My daughters are good at letting me know what they like, and they often like similar dolls that I would like. A few times a year we clean up their Christmas/Birthday Wish List and several dolls end up on them. We get some catalogs in the mail and I pay attention to what the girls comment on and circle or what they show me.
