Just don't do it. I know that is not what you want to hear, but there are already too many pets out there (purebred and otherwise) that can't be taken care of. There has to be some other way to make extra money.
The money that you would make would NOT be worth the time/effort/expense of breeding. Just take a look in the classifieds and a trip down to the animal shelter. There are just too many other dogs for you to make it "worthwhile". And you should know that I am not trying to be negative, just realistic.

Okay so first let me start out by saying this could get a little long winded and if I sound preachy I am very sorry, I don't mean to. First, I have read some of the other responses that talk about money, if that is the reason why you are asking your looking in the wrong area. Breeding animals in general takes more money to do it than you will ever get back. Most just do it because they find it rewarding. There are certain health tests that should/need to be done on both parents depending on the breed (some breeds are prone to eye problems, hip problems, etc..) The American Kennel Club has some great advice http://www.akc.org/about/faq.cfm?page=10 Just a personal note I would do a lot of research about the breed and ask yourself what is the real reason I am doing this.

I think it would be hard to earn money raising purebreds and even harder without papers. My BIL breeds and trains dogs, with papers, and it is not a big money maker. He just enjoys it.

There are other alternatives to supplementing your income. I am doing that right now. Let me know if you are interested.

Breeding is not a get rich fast thing. It takes a lot of time, and $$$ to get a litter breed and ready for sale.
