My CA anti virus software is expiring. does anyone know of any other free antivirus software out there that is good for a trial period of a year or so? CA offers their trial period for a year.
I checked all of the recommendations. they were all great and very helpful. i downloaded the avg since it was the most recommended and appeared to be the most popular download on the internet on the recommend websites the hippo one and the geek website. thanks for your response!

Hello J.,
try Avast. I have been using it for the past couple of years, have had no problems. it is available from their website. avast.com it's free, though you can make a donation if you would like. it's easy to download and use, I have a couple computer friends that use it. It hasn't caused any problems w/vista either.

Go to www.grisoft.com and download the free anti-virus software from AVG. It's absolutely free and one of the best out there. You can also check to see if your ISP offers any free security software as part of your service. G. B.

Hi J.,
Wow - sounds like you are really busy. That's great you're able to balance so much.
I use AVG antivirus software. I've used it for several years and it is free. There are also versions of it that you pay for but this free one seems to do a good job. It updates daily when my computer is on. You should be able to find it at www.avg.com - if you're interested. Good luck.
-Sherry.

Bummer, I wish I would have read your posting before I just renewed my CA Anti Virus Software, ugh. Oh well. Did you like CA? I have to turn off my Firewall in order to access some websites, even my email because it takes like 2 hours to get from site to site. And turning that off can't be good.

Not sure what internet provider you have, but I use Comcast. They give you free McAfee antivirus. You just have to download it.

Just a note to be aware. I uploaded some free antivirus software of the internet that was recommended by my internet provider when my previous subscription expired, and I as concerend about potential viruses. Within hours my computer became overloaded by spyware and I had to take in the hardrive in for service. I'm no computer expert, but I won't be uploading anything like that again without consulting someone who is. Be careful!

I have Avast! anti-virus. Its free and all you have to do is renew the code every 14 months. I really like it and never had any problems with it in the 2+ years I've had it.
Try avast.com, I have my antivirus through them and it's free for the home version. They just provide it so viruses don't get spread. Hopefully you can find it ok. All you should have to do is give your info and they'll send you an email with a registration number to enter within a certain amount of time. It seems to work too, it's caught a few viruses trying to get in. And it updates automatically, which is really nice. God Bless!

Hi J....a wonderful and trustworthy website is majorgeeks.com. They have anything that you would like regarding antivirus, registry cleaners, popup blockers, etc. Some are free and some you have to buy, but they let you know. Be careful of the ones that just let you try them and then want you to pay. If it is from majorgeeks and not another source on their site, and it says free, it will be. Hope this helps.

Avast offers a free all the time software as long as it is for personal use not for business use. http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html is the link. On the right side of the screen is the place you would click on download. Hope this helps.
