We are going to Colorado this summer and plan on staying several days in Estes park. Can anybody recommend places to stay?

I would go to Glennwood Springs!! Both are awesome places, but if I had my choice, and had to pick one, I'd choose Glennwood! Either way, enjoy!!

Stay at the Stanley Hotel !! If your a horror movie lover you might know it as the Overlook Hotel from the movie "The Shining". I would love to stay in one of the haunted rooms... it's a very historical place as well.

We stayed at Misty Mountain Lodge. It's very close to downtown, very easy walk. They have cabins, suites or rooms. A family owns the property and would visit with us. We felt at home and we stayed in cabin #15 I believe. it was really nice. We saw deer right out our window and the hot tub was super close. It is a place I would recommend, and I don't always recommend everywhere I've stayed. You're going to have so much fun.

It's beautiful in those mountains! We did not stay at the Stanley, but visited it. It's neat. Stephen King stayed there while writing the Shining, it's not where they filmed it, so you won't see the hotel from the movie. But you can see his room and it's a neat place. We stayed at a place near by with cabins. I don't remember the name, but it was SUPER cool with lots of woods to explore in. It's been 20 years now, so I forget, but it had to be some sort of Natl Park type thing. If you want a mountain experience, the Stanley might disappoint because it's by itself, not amidst trees or anything, so you tend to drive into town as entertainment. But you could still drive "to the woods" for hiking etc. But if you want to stay "in the woods" I'd look into surrounding places.

The Stanley Hotel, of course. Can't see visiting and not staying there. It is the inspiration for Stephen King's "The Shining" but not the location where it was filmed.

I don't have any recommendations, but I wanted to say that I'm jealous! Have a wonderful time!

ps - We never stayed in Estes Park, just visited RMNP. We stayed on the front range for that trip and drove into the mountains each day. We stayed in Glenwood Springs another year. It was nice to do once. We're not into the whole tourist-y scene of Glenwood Springs, we prefer the idea of visiting a national forest for a couple of days instead. You would have better access to Rocky Mountain National Park from Estes Park vs. Glenwood Springs. It really depends on what kind of vacation you want.
