Anybody Else Want to Go to a Taping of a Show?

I wanted to go to Ellen and I did. I went online and was able to get ticket online. Because it was in the valley and I leave in the south bay, it was long for me. I had to have somone pick my kids up that day. If you have child care then try. Yes it was fun, although watching on tv is sort of better. She did not give anything great away that day, so I was bummed about that and I was not really close enought to see her in person. SO, just sort of a waist of a day. BUT, to win something, I would try again.

I went to a taping/audition for Who Wants to be a Millionaire. The tickets and audition are free. If you are from out of town, you have to pay for your hotel - we stayed at the Waldorf Astoria - and travel is all on you...

It was a long day - about 5 hours in the studio - and an hour of standing outside - it was fun to see all the different takes - how loud we had to clap to make it sound "right" on tape.

I had a blast! I got to meet Tim Gunn - he is a dear!

I went to a taping of a sitcom years ago, it was one that never made it to the TV, we were a test group audience. It was really fun tho. The atmosphere is worth what you might go thru to get there.

I went to see David Letterman years ago (here on the East coast) tickets were free, and I think we just had to show up an hour before taping, so it didnt take all day.

I would LOVE to go to a taping of Conan! But considering that his shows are in LA (NYC next week) and I live in Oklahoma, I probably won't get to see him anytime soon. :(

Our daughter was asked to be on The Home Show when she was about 9 yrs old. Gary Collins and Sarah Purcell were the hosts. They had a young boy who started a club for kids who wanted a pen pal of a diffferent race. He had over 10,000 responses and my daughter was one of them. They wanted her and her pen pal to surprise him on a follow up show. They called us, they flew my husband, daughter and me to LA, picked us up at the airport and put us in the Hilton. We had a car come get us the next day and took us to the studio for the taping. She had her hair and makeup done and wired with a mic. It was a big experience for us all! I remember standing off to the side and watching the segments of the show before our daughters and after the show meeting the hosts and Carol Duvall, the craft lady. I remember how old they all looked compared to on tv. It didnt take a long time to do the show since it was live but the comercial breaks were a rush deal to get stuff ready for the next part. I guess it would be different to actually be in the audience and Id love to go someday with friends to some show, even a sitcom would be fun.

I went to a taping of the Oprah Winfrey show in October 2009. It was a long morning, but exciting. I took my aunt, cousin and mom with. I got tickets on my first try and was able to choose 3 other people to go. Tickets were free, there were no giveaways or special tokens of appreciation from Ms. Winfrey. I must say though that she was extremely gracious and kind to the whole audience.

I went to a taping of Jerry Springer (not on the show, in the audience).. it was a blast and free!

I went to Oprah a MILLION years ago. The tickets are free but HARD to get. You usually have to get there REALLY early but it depends when the show tapes or if it's a live show.

I knew a lot about how tv shows work but until you SEE it for yourself it makes it even more interesting to see what happens during breaks.

I was standing next to Oprah and could BELIEVE how BIG (physically)her head is. It's HUUUUGE!

I made the mistake at the end when she greets people and asked for a hug. After that EVERYBODY wanted a hug. This was back in the early 90s before it became the Oprah "we give houses and cars away" show.

I was bored as hell because it was about divorce and very depressing BUT liked being there. That was when they had callers on the phone.

I wish I went to another show after her Harpo studio was built but Chicago literally gives me a headache.
