I have a 23 month old daughter and thought we'd try Pixieland before going to Gilroy Gardens. I visited the website but there was no info on the types of rides there. Has anyone been and is it appropriate for a practially 2 yr old?

Thanks!k

Looks like you received great input already. I will second the woman below my comment that it is definitely not an all day park. My daughter is 2 1/2 and went for Mother's Day for about 2 hours. I will add in that you have to buy tickets or a bracelet for the child but also for whichever adult will be riding with her. When we went, since it was Mothers Day, they allowed me to ride with her for free but on any other day there would have been an additional cost so just take that into account. There is a place called Fairyland in Oakland that is much larger and my daughter was fascinated by it. They have shows and lots of other activities so that park is a full day of fun and not overly priced. Worth looking into but either way I'm sure she will love all of them!

Pixieland is great for toddlers. They have rides for the young toddlers, such as cars that go around slowly on a track or the carousel, and parents can also ride with them and then they have rides for the older toddlers, such as the kiddie roller coaster. It's a good local place to take toddlers for thrills, but they ONLY have rides. Gilroy Gardens has toddler rides, a nice splash/water area and a play area, not to mention the beautiful gardens. I took my daughter to Pixieland first though so that I can get her used to the idea of riding on rides. We went a couple of times. The last thing you want to do is pay to get into a park or pay for ride tickets and she doesn't even want to ride on anything.

We have been to both Pixieland and Gilroy Gardens with my 18 month old and almost 3 year old daughter. Both places are great as the little ones can ride the greater majority of the rides.

Hi K.,
Yes, it's been a few years since we've been there, but it's a nice, small, gentle intro to the world of amusement parks. Another great option is Fairyland in Oakland. Not only do they have a couple of fun rides, but there is a GREAT old fashioned puppet show, and the park is completely kid sized and themed...you can climb on a pirate ship, explore a wonderland maze, slide down cinderlla's slipper, and much more (and the landscaping is so lovely!)
Yet another option is Tilden Park in Berkeley. They have a real steam train, a wonderful antique carousel and a little farm with real live cows, goats, rabbits, chickens, pigs, etc (there is also Lake Anza which has a great little beach and snack bar.)
Although I really like Gilroy Gardens, I would explore these three places closer to home until your daughter is 3 or 4. Have fun!!!

It is a very small park with 7 carnival-type rides suitable for toddlers. The map/drawing you see on the web site is pretty descriptive of the park. Kids can ride the train, carousel, cars, (and maybe teacups) with an adult. The airplanes, mini roller coaster and frog hopper ride have minimum height restrictions. There are picnic tables and a grassy lake duck pond area nearby. If you're in the area or passing through, a great little stop for an hour or so, but definitely NOT a major destination location if you're coming from far away.

My kids love it and they are 3 1/2 and 1 1/2. There is only like 8 rides total, but there are a few rides for their age group. Which is nice because a lot of places only have one, the carousel - which they do have too. The tickets are like a $1 a piece and most rides are 2+ tickets so be prepared for that. All that said, it is a nice get a way for a few hours...there isn't enough to do to entertain for a day.

Enjoy!
