Anyone Have Experience with NovaSure- Ednometrial Ablation?

I am considering looking into this more, and wanted to know. It is a procedure where they insert a net into the uterus and electrically destroy the uterine lining. It is for people who have heavy/prolonged periods/bleeding. You have to be done having kids, which I am. It can be done in the office, or at the hospital under gen anesthesia.

*updated questions*
Did you have the procedure in the office or hospital, what med did you have, and what did you feel during and after ward.
Did your ins cover the procedure? How much does it cost?
Do you still have a period? Would you have it done again?

Thanks to the women who have already responded!
H.

So What Happened?

I talked with my Dr. and had the procedure done on tuesday. I had it done in the office. It was no where near as bad as I expected, the pain from the biopsy was worse. All I had was some major cramps that night, and I feel fine! I feel so great, and have no discharge, so I am hoping it even worked! Thank you for all your responses, I feel really good about my decision.

I had it done a little over a year ago. You tend to have spotting for about a month and a half (or I did), but I haven't had a period, or cramps, since then!! :) You do still have the hormonal swings associated with periods, though. I do not regret having it done for a second...

Hi H., You gave a lot of information, but I didn't really understand what you wanted to know. I have been researching this myself, but haven't had it done yet, since my doc is trying some other things first. I may be able to pass on some info that I have looked up. I also would be interested in what info you get. I know people who had this ablation done, but not with novasure, which is what I would be having.

Hi H.-
I had the Nova Sure procedure done in August of 2007 at Royal Oak Beaumont. I think that the results were fantastic! The heavy bleeding and clotting that was causing my anemia is gone! The first week to 10 days afterwards were a little tricky (bleeding, cramping and moody) but I did go back to work after 2 days. I was put under for the procedure, and did not have any problems with that-It was over pretty quick. The periods now are much shorter and mostly spotting, not really a "flow". My insurance covered 80% my copay was about 1200.00-well worth it. I have no regrets about the procedure, except that I did not do it sooner. Good Luck with your decision-I think it was a blessing for me! S.

I had this procedure done, it did not work for me and I ultimately ended up having a partial Hysterectomy, I had an underlying problem though. I have heard that there is a huge success rate with it though.

Hi H.:

I had the procedure done last December and I have been very happy with my decision. I had it done in the hospital under general anesthesia and it was an outpatient procedure. The recovery was not bad at all - just some cramping (maybe like a bad period) and bleeding for about 3-4 weeks afterward (but still nothing like the periods I was having). I was severely anemic due to losing so much blood during my period and now all of my counts are back to normal. I still do have a period but it is VERY light and only lasts for about 2 days. My insurance did pay for the procedure. I would definitely have it done again!

Let me know if you have any more questions :)

Good luck!

Hi H., I'll be having this proceedure done on Friday. I chose to have it done in the office. I'm having it done not only because of my irregular periods but also because of other hormonal problems that I have and we're hoping to get some relief from that, by me being able to go off of heavy birth control pills and using a non-hormonal form of birth control instead. I will make sure to post a couple days afterwards to you how it went and what I am feeling, okay?

I just had the procedure done in July, it was an out patient I came home and slept most of the rest of the day and only used motrin for the pain. It was like really really bad cramping. I had moderate bleeding for the first 3 days then it got lighter no more than just a light days pad. by week 5 -8 I would spot put on a pad then not again for that day. Since then the only thing I have is maybe some back cramps but no bleeding. I have a friend that had it done two years ago and loves it. I am happy with it my insurance paid half but that is still up for debt. it was a little over 1000 for the whole thing so far that is what the bills are. Yes I would have it done again.

I have had this procedure and I am so happy I did. I had been experiencing long super heavy periods for some time and since NovaSure I have never felt better. The best part is I have had barely any bleeding since. My periods are almost non existent. I highly recommend it.

It's the best! I had one day of cramping and that was it. I no longer have to worry about staying at home because of heavy periods. Cramping is gone. Periods are light and only last a couple of days vs. the 7 day periods I used to have. The endometrial biopsy they had to do before I was approved for the procedure was very painful but it was worth it.

Hi H..
I had also thought about this procedure then backed out after my husband found this website. Please make sure you know all the risks before having this done. Good luck.
