My 4 month old needs a second opinion regarding open heart surgery, and we'd like to get one at Children's. If she does in fact need surgery, it needs to take place at the end of the flu season, March/April. I tried to get an appointment, but can't get in till end of April. Can anyone help us - please?

Hi L.,

My girlfriend works there. Below is an email from her. She can hopefully help you. So sorry to hear about your little girl. I pray everything goes well for you.

Good luck, C.

Hi C.,

I may be able to help her, but I don't see a place to sign up for a new account, when I try to respond to her, it asks for existing e-mail/password. Since you are a member, why don't you forward my e-mail address to her and I will see what I can do. You can give her this one you are using, ____@____.com't make promises, but tell her to e-mail me as soon as possible and I will find the right contacts. I hope you have a good weekend!!

I wouldn't say I ave pull. However, I can recommend Dr. Wax. He did all of my sons surgery's and is known to be top in his field. When you meet him he is like a child, almost innocent looking. But he is really nice and does a wonderful Job!

Good Luck,
Barb

We see several Dr's at Children's as my son has many complications and spent a month there at birth. Including Cardiology - I wish I could say I had "pull" but what I could suggest is see if your pediatrician can help you out - maybe you've already tried this? But when our son needed yet another specialist our pediatrician is affiliated with Children's (Town and Country) told us to mention some term (can't recall) to get in earlier. So my best advice is to try that - sorry if you have already been down that road. My other suggestion would be to get in touch with one of the Dr's nurses at Children's and explain your situation and see if they can help you out - the key is to get beyond the general "scheduler" - we see Dr. Pahl and she is very good.
Feel free to contact me direct.
Good Luck!

Check with your pediatrician to see if they are part of CCPA, there are appointments held for these physicians. Also you can have your pediatrician call the cardiologist directly to explain your child's condition. Either of these may help. Good Luck.

My sister-in-law has a son with a heart condition and was at Children's Memorial for 2 weeks and her new baby will also have the same condition. I'll give you her email and she may be able to help you. Her Dr. from there also has an office at St. Alexius, I think, but I know she has one out here, too.

Her name is Jackie and her son will be 4 in April. She is having her baby next week, so if you contact her, do it before Friday. I know she is going to see her cardiologist when the baby is born, she has to be there for the heart of the newborn.

Good luck. ____@____.com (her email)

I have never been to Children's, but my daughter had heart surgery this past August. We saw Dr. Marc Ovadia at University of Chicago and are extremly happy with him. I would definitely recommened him!!! If you are interested in further info, feel free to contact me! I know that this is a VERY difficult thing to go through and I wish you the best of luck!

I was once given the advice (by a nurse at Children's) to go to Childern's ER and that can speed things up with appts.

Good luck!
