Go Rest High on That Mountain by Vince Gill I have several suggestions for southern gospel or country style gospel music if you like too.

I know my request is a little unusual, but I recently lost a loved one. I'm making a video memorial which includes footage of a Memorial Motorcycle Ride we held in his honor. The ride ended at his grave site, and that's the part I'm struggling with. I don't listen to Country music, but he was a fan. So I thought a slower melody song about remembering someone, or being in heaven, or something along those lines would work best in the video. I really wanted to use Clapton's Tears in Heaven, but my family insists I include Country music. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!
Thanks to everyone who replied. I had a really tough time making a decision there were so many great suggestions. I knew my mamasource friends would come through. You always do! In case you're wondering...I decided to go with Who You'd Be Today and One More Day. PM me if you're interested in seeing the video when it's done. Thanks again!

Steve Wariner, Holes in the floor of heaven Lyrics at http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/wariner-steve/holes-in...
I believe the song is "Go rest high on that mountain". Vince Gill, Patty Loveless and I think Ricky skaggs all sing it together. Its beautiful!
R.,
First...My prayers are with you during this time. You will find much comfort in producing this video memorial. You are doing a great service for your family and friends by keeping his memory alive through your video.
I do photo/video montages and a good portion of my jobs are for memorials. Just from the little bit you have described, my first instinct is to use Amazing Grace by a country singer. This song has been recorded by many singers, especially country singers. The version that stands out in my mind is from LeAnn Rimes.
You already have several good suggestions. But one that I do not see mentioned is "The Walk" by Sawyer Brown.
Another country song I have used recently for a memorial is "You Can Let Go" by Crystal Shawanda, but I am not a big fan of that song.
Ironically, today I am compiling a list of songs for memorial montages. If you are interested in what I come up with, email me at:

Take care,

"who you'd be today" by somebody??? it's about wondering who'd they would be today had they not died. a friend of mine had it played at her cousin's funeral, who died on a motorcycle at a young age.
Keith Anderson has a new song exactly about that. Its pretty good... I think its called, I still miss you.
You might do a search for his website, I'm sure it will be on there.
I am very sorry for your loss.
One song comes in mind and it is sung by Brad Paisley and Dolly Pardon "When I get where I'm going". It's a beautiful song. You could probaly google it and listen to the lyrics.

Where I get where I'm going by Brady Paisley is a good one.

Hey R. sorry for your loss.
You have had a lot of great responses, I am not sure what the name of the song is but it is by Reba and it was played in the Lane Frost movie 8 seconds. I still get teary eyed when I hear it. Also the new one by Carrie Underwood I think it is called just a dream.
Take care and God Bless you.
The Dance - Garth Brooks
I'm sorry for your loss. I'm not at all a "country fan" but there are some beautiful songs out there: I think Garth Brooks' "the dance" is an incredible song. It's a little more about memories, not so sad. And as a few have already mentioned, "one more day" is pretty (but for this occassion, maybe too sad?).
Use the song "When I get to where I'm going" or something like that by Brad Paisley. It deals with the subject in a really touching way. Or perhaps "The Dance" by Garth Brooks. A friend of mine played "I hope you dance" at her daughter's service and it was lively. I'm sure you'll find the right one to honor your loved one. I hope I helped.
Brad Paisley "When I get to where I am going" is a beautiful song. So sorry for your loss.
R.,
I'm sorry for your loss - this song is not Country it's by Mercy Me - Homesick - hope this helps
Remember When by Alan Jackson.
Hi R., so sorry for your loss. I know this must be very hard for you. Anyway, I know a perfect song, it is by Vince Gill. It is called "Go Rest High on that Mountain" It is a beautiful and touching song and I think you will really like it. I hope all goes well at the funeral. God Bless you during this difficult time
R.,
I know you've already made up you mind about the montage so this is just a general comment for the service. When my Dad died I wasn't sure what music to use for the service because he liked country music and I don't listen to it very often so wasn't sure what songs to choose. I got some of his CDs and listened to some songs. It was actually easy to select ones that I thought he liked. We played them at the beginning and a few during and it added a real personal touch for us to his memorial service. People commented that it was nice. Sorry for your loss.

finding this was an answer to prayer. I read all the responses to her question and it answered all of mine . My father passed on frid. and I have been scrambling to get things done . Thank you all! V.
I'm so sorry for your loss. If it was an unexpected loss, "if I had only known" by Reba is a heart-breaking song that reminds us to enjoy what we have now.
Best wishes in putting together the memorial; what a wonderful way to be remembered.
There is a beautiful song called When I get Where I'm Going. Don't remember who sings it.
Diamond Rio's "One More Day"
I know this is way to late but I thought I could add a couple I didn't see on any list, for other readers or future reference.
Angel Flying To Close To The Ground-- Willie Nelson
If I Had Only Known- Reba McIntyre
I Believe--Diamond Rio
Sorry for your loss, we lost my father in law last year and the song that always seem to bring him back to us is " holes in the floor of heaven" the only thing is i dont know the name of the singer. Soory for that too. Its a great country song. I just tried to look in my i pod and the battery is very low so thats all i can come up with sorry.

Im not a big country fan either but like a previous poster said, "Go rest high on that mountain" by Vince Gill had me choked up at my husband's uncle's funeral. It was perfect.
Here are the lyrics:
I know your life
On earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the devil
You were no stranger to the rain
Go rest high on that mountain
Son, you work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and Son
Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve
I wish I could see the angels faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing
Go rest high on that mountain
Son, you work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and Son
"The Dance" by Garth Brooks is a good one.
I am so sorry for your loss. These are a couple of songs that come to mind:
"I Believe" by Diamond Rio
"Go Rest High On That Mountain" by Vince Gill
"One More Day" by Diamond Rio
Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton had a beautiful song. I believe it's called "When I Get Where I'm Going". They also played Garth Brooks' "The Dance" at my FIL's funeral. Another good one might be "Before My Time" by Johnny Cash. Here are a few more:
Angels Among Us by Alabama
Go Rest High On That Mountain by Vince Gill
I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me
If Tomorrow Never Comes by Garth Brooks
Life Without You by Stevie Ray Vaughn
Garth Brooks, The Dance
I am sorry to hear about your loss. Here is a special one that was played at my mothers funeral.
Vince Gill - Go Rest High On That Mountian - not sure if that is the title
R., There is a song by LoneStar (country), It is called "I'm already there". I am a big country fan. If you go to Lyrics.com you can type in any songs artist or the song title & it will let you see all the words. I love this song tho.I ask it be played at my memorial. I am very sorry for your loss. God bless you all.
I am not sure if I have the title right, but there's a song with the words, "Look for me" and I've heard it at a couple of funerals. It was sung in the C&W style. It may be in the Christian genre. The message in the song is when you get to heaven, and you've been there "a million years or two, look for me." Wish I could give you more, but that's all I remember. It is a beautiful song.
Your GOnna Miss Ths - I think it is by Toby Keith maybe???
What about the song " When I get where I'm going," by Brad Paisley, featuring Dolly Parton. I lost my mom recently and this one was one I used. It is a very heart touching song. I also used "I hope you Dance" by Leeann Womack. I am truly sorry for your loss. Good Luck and God bless. Feel free to message me if you just need to talk, vent, or whatever. Sending you strength in your time of sorrow.
Not strange at all, the idea is very nice. Some songs that I can think of are, He gets that from me by Reba Mcentire and How can I Help you say goodbye by Patty Loveless, Ships of Heaven by Blackhawk and Johnny Cash-Before my Time, holes in the floor of Heaven and Long Black Train by Josh Turner.
I am so sorry for your loss.
The Dance, not sure who it's by...maybe Garth Brooks.

The Dance by Garth Brooks
One More Day by Diamond Rio
there is one that is kind of like the song that you were wanting to use. i dont not remember who sings it but it is called holes in the floor of heaven.
Hi,
I'm sure you'll get lots of ideas. There is a southern gospel song that would probably be great too. It's called "Wish you were Here". It is kind of slow and it talks about a loved one walking on the streets of heaven. You can find it on limewire.

Check out Rascal Flatts, I think it's "what hurts the most"? they won a ton of awards for the song, google them, they are the only ones that come to mind right away.
