I do have a acer. My husband got it for me not this past x-mas but the one before. It is awful. I have nothing but problems. The mouse is so sensitive. When i am typing it jumps around and i'm typing in middle of a sentence. My husband talked to acer help about this and they didn't seem to be much help. I get blue screened all the time. Just 2 weeks ago it just totally crashed on me. I lost everything. I would recommend a different brand. It seems that after my husband has done some research to the problems i have had with my acer...it seems many other people have had the same problems.

We have been using an Acer laptop for at least the last year. We have really liked it. I had other laptops at work and preferred the Acer. We just bought another Acer from Wal-Mart last week (the one I am using now).

The only thing I don't like about the one I just got is that it has a different program than Microsoft Office loaded. You can still save as "Word" documents, though. We figure that even if it doesn't last for more than 2-3 years, the price is worth it and everything changes so quickly that it will be outdated anyway.

We haven't had any problems with memory, although my husband does use a memory stick just for safety. We listen to music, watch movies, and watch tv online. We hook the computer up to the tv to show on the big screen so don't even have satellite, etc. The only thing I've found with the older one is that some DVDs don't play very loudly..it seems mostly ones we've burned. We ended up getting speakers to plug into the computer so we could all hear easily when watching tv shows.

We take our laptops with us everywhere. We don't even use desktops anymore. It just doesn't seem necessary, even for our business. Good luck!

Hi! I have an ACER laptop. I love it. I do have to say though that the finger pad is a bit sensitive, but my DH adjusted that. We have pictures stored on it and we also download songs for my ipod. It still is pretty quick. The only downside to it is that there isn't a light on it so if you are using it in the dark, it is harder to see the keys. the one feature that I LOVE about it is that it has a 10-key. I'm so used to using one on a regular keyboard. It comes with windows Vista, but I haven't really used it a whole bunch, and it also comes with some pretty cool games other than your basic solitaire. I think we purchased ours for about what you found it for and I think it is well worth the money. Good luck on your search.

I have a mid priced Acer desktop from Walmart that is still going strong after 3 years. It is my favorite, and I have 2 HP laptops at hom and Dells at work. A few colleagues have Acer laptops and are very happy with them. I plan to get an Acer laptop for my next purchase.

3G memory and 250 hard drive is enough for what you want to do and that price is great. You can always get external hard drives later on if you need extra storage.

No one I've known who's had an acer, laptop or desktop, has liked it. All of them were trouble, and fixing them and upgrading them are both a challenge. You can get a low end Dell for less than that, and though the stats aren't quite as good, it will likely last you much longer. Plus for music and pictures, you don't really need 3 gigs of ram anyway.

I'd check around Newegg and Overstocks. Don't be afraid of refurbished computers.

I have an Acer laptop; it's a little over a year old. It's wonderful and my kids and I still love it. I really like that it didn't come with so many "extras" loaded on it...you know, those trial programs to check out. We've added a number of programs ourselves, and it still responds well. It's way quicker than my laptop at work (a Dell) after one year.

I have a Acer and I love it. But I deleted the Windows Vista and installed Windows xp proffessional into it. Windows Vista is a pain you know where. I would also add to your storage place for more memory about any computer geek can do this for you at a reasonable price. You could also get a memory card to keep your extra stuff on if it comes with a card reader writer, they don't cost alot and can store bunches of stuff.

That is a good choice for what you say you want to do. My girlfriend just got an Acer for her daughter for Christmas and she loved it so much that she bought another one for herself. She just went back to school, and she said that it is lite and easy to carry from class to class. I am planning on getting one to give to my son for his birthday present in April and I think I will get another one for me too.

My hubby works on computers including ACERs. He said that ACER computers are "second rate". You get what you pay for. I guess it just depends what you want to do with it. I would say just expect prbls that you would not have w/a better rate laptop (although you might be lucky and it'll work out great). For laptops, Dells are great or if you can invest a little more money, Toshibas are even better (in my opinion). Good luck in your search.

I don't know across the board, but my dad has an Acer and has nothing but trouble with it. He has had three in the last two years, thank God for warranties.
And you're right the memory in a laptop can't compete with that of a desktop. I don't know where you're located, but if you want great advice go to Fry's off I69. The staff there is awesome and the prices can't be beat, even by Walmart!!
Good luck.

Hi B.! I work on computers for a living. 3GB of RAM is a lot of memory. And a 250GB hard drive is a very decent size too. I bet you'll never use up all of that space or memory. Laptops are usually more expensive than a desktop computer, but it sounds like this is a decent price. My only recommendations are to make sure the processor is at least a dual core, and you will need to look to see what kind of other drives are included (will you need to burn DVDs or CDs?). And you noted that you have a wireless router, so of course make sure the laptop has an internal wireless card (most laptops come with that for a standard). ACER laptops have really improved and have been known to be cheaper then DELL laptops. I hope this helps. Feel free to send me a message with any other questions. Or if you could even give me the make or model of the laptop, or the link on Walmart's webpage, that would help too.

Hi B.,
I have not owned an acer computer however my friend has. Her computer was a tank! She loved it. The only reason she isn't using it anymore is because it became too old to take the microsoft updates. Yes, I would recommend one. Also if you are only using your computer for personal use you don't need a fully loaded computer. That should be fine. I have a HP laptop at home and love it. I have i tunes and pics stored and still have plenty of space. i am just now getting a flash drive to start saving too. Good luck. Hope this helps!
