Are ALL 3 1/2 Year Olds THIS LOUD?!

My son is 3 1/2 and he's so loud! When he's laughing, playing, gets really excited he's so LOUD. Then my 18mo old thinks it's fun so she is LOUD. We demonstrate the 'inside' voice, but then he gets excited and forgets. He's happy so it's hard to correct him, but you know he's the loud kid when you can hear him in the tunnel at McDonald's playland and know it's him.

Do they outgrow this or do I just have a loud child?! :)

What can I do next?

My 2 year old Loves to be LOUD!! lol cracks me up - seeing him laugh that BIG silly laugh.. its Great ~ But then comes the Angry Loud :-( I'm not a fan of that. He knows how to whisper, but that's only fun for so long! I'm really hoping its a phase, but my 30 yr old brother has Always, Always been known for being the Loud one, can Hear him over Everyone and everything else... We shall see..

Yes they are all loud. They don't outgrow it, but this is a greattime to teach your child about voice level. We play a "game" in our house and will say a silly sentence at different levels so that my 3 yr old can "feel" and "hear" what each sounds like:
- Whisper Voices
- Talking Voices (like this better than "inside voices")
- Outside Voices

This is one of those times when you have to explicitly teach them "which voice to use when" or they will stick with the loud voice!

Some people, are just born with loud voices.
Both my kids, have TRUMPET voices.
Sure, they know what whispering is.
But their natural voices, are loud.
But in school, they are not loud.
They modulate their voices, per venue.

Me? Well I was born with a loud voice. Like my late Dad.
Oh well.
Sometimes I don't even know, I am talking loud. But my Husband tells me. It is so irritating.
Ugh.
I can't help it, all the time.

Kids, don't have perfect impulse-control over their voices.
My kids are so expressive... sigh.

As they get older, they will get better at modulating their voices.
Just teach him.
But don't expect perfection.
The person hearing it, is also.... either more sensitive to sounds or not.
So keep that in mind.
My Husband, (sigh) grew up in a library. Meaning, his house and Mom, growing up, was SO quiet. My house growing up, was full of talking and self-expression. My house is too... with my kids. I value... my kids being 'expressive' and able to voice, thoughts.
So, I take it with a grain of salt.

It's been my experience that you have to really ride them about it before they change. If you just sit back and allow it, he'll stay this way. You have to tell him over and over to talk quieter that you can hear him. It takes time and practice :)

No, not all are loud. I think it depends on the kid & whether or not the parent is working with them to be quieter. Some parents have the "kids will be kids" mentality & think it's okay for their kids to run around like banshees, other parents will constantly remind their kids that not everyone wants to hear it & to use good manners.
