Do they have to be in a pair?

One of our birds, recently died. It was a "Mejiro" Japanese White Eye, bird.
Raised from a baby. It was a fantastic pet bird. So loving and tame etc.
We are sad.
But we would like to get another bird as a pet.
We have a parakeet now too. That is a good pet too,
We don't want a "big" bird or parrot.

Just looking for feedback if you have a Lovebird and how it is as a pet?
My kids are really great with being good with them.

TIA!

What can I do next?

Yes, lovebirds must be in a pair. My dad and stepmom have had them for years, including pairs they hand-raised. I think they are great! They are very friendly and will "talk" with you, tilting their head back and forth like they are listening to what you say :) Since you have had birds, you know all about the mess and upkeep.
They have had canaries and various finches too, but the lovebirds always showed the most personality, in my opinion.

I have a lovebird. If you get one, make sure it's a hand-raised baby. My lovebird is tame, and very cute. But I've had more exciting birds. A hand-raised parakeet is a little more interesting, I think.

My lovebird only makes one noise, and is a major biter/chewer. She's not biting aggressively, she just likes to nibble on things. But it hurts. She's smart, and she flies over when I get near the cage, but she doesn't do anything particularly interesting other than that. She bit two keys off my laptop keyboard, if you find that interesting.

From what I've heard, if you get two lovebirds, they will only be interested in each other.

Whatever you get, make sure it's hand-raised from an infant, or it will never really be tame, or like you.

we had a pair until last year. they were easy to have as pets but really not interesting. we gave them away.
ps they recommend you get one male and one female. we did. they interacted with one another, that's about it. i'd say, for kids, they are not that interesting.

NO! My mom had them for years when I was younger and I just remember them being very noisy and messy. And I remember thinking when I get older I will NEVER have birds as pets. lol But you already have birds so these issues may not be an issue for you. So I guess I didn't help. lol Good luck!
