I have a 4 month old son and when he was younger, he used to get these "blisters" too. I found out that it was just from him sucking on his bottle. It's perfectly normal. They do go away. He doesn't get them anymore.
I noticed that my two month old's lips appear to be one big blister on the bottom and top lips more on the inner parts of his lips. I'm not sure if it's just that his lips are puckered & a little more swollen on the inside than on the outside or if they're actual blisters. It's hard to tell because what appears to be blisters is just a tad bit lighter than the rest of his lips. I do know that the blister in the center of his top lip is common from nipple irritation, but I don't know about the rest on the top & bottom. I can't call my doctor until Friday & I'm not sure if I should page him in the morning or not. If it is blisters, is it normal or should I be alarmed? You moms are great! Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hi it sounds like that is normal. When I was breastfeeding my son he developed those and when I took him to his pediatrician she said he was fine that most children who breastfeed and some that bottlefeed develop those blisters. Once I stopped breastfeeding it went away. Good luck!
Hi,
My little man got breastfeeding blisters also. I didn't know they were only supposed to occur in one area. He got them all across both lips. They would blister up, peel, and then come back a day or two later. They never seemed to bother him. I would say if your son doesn't seem to be in pain or upset by them, then you likely have nothing to worry about. My little guy is 4 months old now and doesn't get them at all anymore.
Good luck.
Don't take chance with you baby. It could be an allergy to something your baby is eating or that you have eaten. Swelling and blistering of the mouth is not a joke! Please go now! If it's nothing than your safe but if it is something bad then get it treated now. Best of luck:)
Yup, breastfeeding blisters.
I could be hand foot mouth it is where one or all three places will get blisters. It is not uncommon for children to get this. You can get it from putting dirty toys or hands in your mouth and they can get it from other children adults can get it too, and he sounds a little to young for this but don't take any chances.
Hi! If you are nursing, these are most likely nursing blisters. Very common. My daughter had them too. They'll go away on their own, and usually, once their lips "toughen up", they won't get them again, or at least not as often. : )
Congrats on the baby! I just wanted to let you know something that nobody else has said. My son is over 16 months old & he still gets what looks like a tiny blister on his upper lip. My mother-in-law said that it was a mouth callous & my husband used to get them all the time (not sure what it's caused from) but that it never seemed to bother him & the doctors didn't seem concerned about it at all. If he seems to be in pain, then defintely take him in, but if not, I wouldn't worry.
I nursed my son and he never had the blisters on the sides of his mouth, but just recently (a week or two ago) he got sores in the corners of his mouth and inside his mouth. His pediatrician said it's something called Herpagina (nice name, right?) and it's been going around for the last month or so. It's nothing to worry about and it should clear up on its own. However, my son got that at the same time that he got a stomach bug, and started getting his molars, so it was a bit rough for us. Good luck finding out the cause!
yes, but little ones from sucking. i was never alarmed about my babie's blisters. just use more vaseline on his lips before and after eating... it also helps prevent eczema on cheeks when food comes into contact w/skin....for future reference.
Hey M M! Congrats on ur lil miracle! Don't worry my daughter was also born early but very healthy and she had the same thing 4 the first 12 wks or so. I also asked my ped-and he told me 2 make sure when she latches on 2 make sure she isn't sucking in part of her lips with her suck. When he latches on and starts sucking just kinda pull his lips out 2 make sure he's not catching his lips. I didn't worry about it 2 much n before I knew it they were all gone. Good luck 2 you!
It sounds like nursing blisters. They get these from the sucking for the nursing. They are harmless and go away. Since he was a premie, he probably has to work/suck even more, thus causing the blisters. My daughter had these one time. The lactation consultant said that it was no big deal. They went away a few days later. Congrats on your baby boy!
H.
I think it is from sucking my babies all had it and I would notice it more right after I breastfed them.
This can also happen from bottle-fed babies.
I wouldn't worry about it at all. Both my kids were breastfed and had the same thing, their lips will get use to the "nipple irritation" thing, and he will soon no longer have it!
