My son was the same way. I used to take a pretty good length of toilet paper and tie it around the sensor with a loose knot. It did the trick. Then I let him take it off, making it flush.
Does anyone have the following issue: My daughter is in the potty training phase. At home and what not she is fine sitting on the toilet. It's a big thing to her to flush on her own. We were at Gordman's department store and I took her to the restroom and while she was going potty it flushed automatically. For starters it scared the mess out of her, then she was mad cause she thought I did it and didn't let her do it. Once she calmed down it happened again. Well by the second time she was shooting daggers at me with her eyes and then the tears came out. I was like Good Lord - how can I get this thing to not flush automatically ?! I know that I can't but I was like COME ON! This sucks! So anyway, now when we are in public I am praying the toilets don't flush automatically because she'll have a tantrum in the stall and that just is not fun for all involved in that tiny space. Has anyone dealt with this before? She really does not understand that some toilets flush by themselves. I've tried explaining it to her but that's a no go. I REALLY do not like those automatic flushing toilets.
Wow it didn't even occur to me - of course there would be a sensor! Thanks ladies! That will definately solve the problem. Hugs to you!

Another mom in my ECFE class has that problem with her daughter. The suggestions for dealing with it were to cover the sensor eye with your hand while in the bathroom, or else take a stack of sticky notes with you and use that to cover the eye.
Good luck!
You could try holding your hand over the sensor while she's going or just tell her that she can push the button again when she's done - they all have a black button that you can push to flush.
My daughter just had her 3rd successful experience going in the toilet! I haven't yet had the problem of automatics...but it got me thinking! What about carrying a small pad of post-it notes in your purse. You can stick a peice over the sensor eye before putting her on the potty. When she is done, she can remove the paper! That way she's not scared of it going off automatically until she's ready for it, and she gets to do the "flushing!" I think I'll be using that method!
Carry some post it's or bandaids in your purse. Before you begin, put it over the senser. It won't flush, then she can push the button on top to make it flush after too.
I would take some masking tape which will tear easily and put it over the sensor. Maybe that'll stop it.
posts its will work but can also hang tp over the sensor,
