Baby Dolls

Hi - I know it's a bit early to ask about Christmas but.... I'm looking for a baby doll for my 2 year old DD. There are so many options (who knew?!) - plastic bodies vs soft bodies, sizes etc - does anyone have any recommendations? DD is obsessed with changing the diapers and putting her toys "to bed" - so I'd like a line that has lots of accessories in that area (eg: diapers, pjs, etc), but not necessarily a doll that "pees" or cries (yikes!). As it's a xmas gift I'm not too concerned about a low price, I would really just like to find one that is sturdy, cute, will last and has easily purchased add-ons. Suggestions would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! The American Girl Dolls really do look amazing and from the sounds of it, they are worth the investment. Good thing I have a few months to save up! ;-) All stories and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Both my girls liked the Cabbage Patch dolls that came with cloth/velcro diapers and other accessories (I think they were "Cabbage Patch Kids Newborns" and came with a change of clothes, bottle, baby carrier and I think one or two more things). They were the perfect size for them at that age! Since you are not concerned about price you could also throw in/buy some other accessories like the 5 in 1 baby doll "kits" that come with things such as pack-n-play, stroller, high chair, baby bag, etc. (different kits have different accessories. Here are a couple of ideas you might find helpful:
Tolly Tots 5-in-1 Graco Doll Stroller
Doll Play Set with Playpen (can be found at Target)

Hope this helps!

Try Baby Alive, the makers of the same doll that pees lol. They have 2 "1st For Me" dolls. The Sips & Cuddle doll makes drinking sounds when you give her a bottle, and giggles when you hug or cuddle her. The Moonlight Lullaby doll plays music and baby sounds and has a glow in the dark shirt.

Our daughter loves her Baby Stella. It is cloth, and she was given it when she turned one. I don't know how many accessories though. It has some, but maybe not to the extent you'd like.

ChouChou baby dolls have lots of clothing and baby accessories like bottles, diaper bags etc. Cute dolls. You can find them at Toys R Us and I believe Target too. I wish my little girl still liked dolls. She turns 13 next month. Sigh.

This is one of the only things I miss about not having a girl! I loved my dolls growing up! I do have a dear Goddaughter, and I would look into the American Girl line and Pottery Barn Kids dolls -they look really cool. They're cloth with yarn hair (some of my favorites were made that way) and have all sorts of cool accessories -strollers, bassinets, clothes, etc. If you get on the Pottery Barn email list, you'll get lots of emails offering free shipping and discounts throughout the year for purchasing add-ons.

I have a house full of doll's & more to come on Christmas.I really love Fisher Price line of dolls they come dressed in cute outfits I picked up several last year @ our local Aldis grocery store for less that 10 bucks they are 16.99 at stores, their newborn dolls are cute you don't need to change outfits or shoes they are on them already, cabbage patch dolls,Circo (Target) really you have lots of options most diapers & clothing can be used for virtually any doll you have same with the diapers but I would just buy a pack a preemie diapers instead of the play ones.My girls have a few that are the talking crying babies but 1 that wets but tey don't know that thye are pretty content with pretending to feed them the bottles or with pretends foods, the ones that cry it's when they get pressed on their backs or hands.I have a Baby Alive doll that coo's & is really ccute she came with a carry seat that one can be found at Kmart,Target,Walmart...
Have fun shopping there are so many to choose from...

American girl dolls are so expensive but boy do they last. My little girl is dying to get her hands on Julie so I think Santa is going to have to scrape up 120 bucks this year. The bitty baby is smaller for little hands and cheaper too. We also have a few cabbage patch dolls, a baby alive, a you and me snuggle doll and her current favorite, Corolle Baby Lia who speaks different languages and sounds like she is peeing after she drinks. Go to toys r us and find her the perfect doll. It doesn't have to cost a fortune but you'll know it when she sees it. We make a trip to the toy store this time every year to watch their faces light up at "THE" toy and then go back when they aren't with us to get it. Have fun looking!

I got my son a baby doll at 2 for Christmas, and he's 4 now and still plays with it. I got a very basic all plastic doll (because he like to take things into the bath tub with him) and my other requirement was that I wanted it to be anatomical, and roughly the size of an actual newborn. I ended up getting the same kind of doll we have at the school I work at.

The doll is well made (they have survived years of institutional. use), anatomically correct (available in both sexes and in a variety of races), 17 inches long, and not too expensive. It's not from a "line" so there are no specific accessories to it, but the stores are filled with clothes for 17 inch dolls, and accessories too. Our only problem is that Duncan (that's what my son named him) is a boy, and there are NO boy's clothes out there for 17 inch dolls! I have gotten him very small preemie clothes in stead.

Here is the doll my son has: http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/Product/ProductDetail...

You'll have to search for the sex/race you want. Also, I highly recommend School Discount Supply for toys, games, and art supplies. We use them all the time at our school and are rarely disappointed. The products are almost always great (every now and then something is disappointingly flimsy, but would probably be fine for home use... ) the service is good, and they ship fast.

The year my daughter turned 2 was the year I broke down and paid the money and bought her an American Girl "Bitty Baby" for Christmas. I recall looking at a catalog book with her and her pointing at Bitty Baby and exclaiming that was what Santa was bringing her. Christmas morning she opened the box and proudly showed her brothers and said 'see! I told you Santa was bringing "Pheobe" ... we have no idea where the name came from but it stuck and 13 yrs later, Pheobe is still in wonderful condition and sits in my daughter's room along with a bin of all her clothing from throughout the years of Christmases and birthdays!

The dolls are sturdy, just the right size and come in many cultures. Its a good investment.

my daughter loved the baby alive dolls. my in laws got her one that pooped.. gross, we exchanged it for the one that just pees.... but still, we bought fake bottles with juice in it and gave her those instead.. no need for her to be changing a wet diaper before she was fully potty trained,,,
we have some am girl dolls too.. very expensive and now that she is 5 is just now getting into playing with them (my fault, b/c i did not want her to ruin them)..good luck. there are so many to choose from..and she will love what ever one she gets....

Hi - We have had good luck with Corelle dolls. There are a lot of types that are recommended by age. I would get the one that has hair that can be washed. Very good quality.
