The purpose of the alcohol is to dry up the area where the cord fell off so I had good luck when I really used the alcohol and got in all the nooks and crannies.
My baby was born May 16th. He lost his umbilical cord over a week ago, but I'm finding a little blood in his navel still. Before the cord fell off there was an almost pus type discharge from under it. It didn't smell but it looked bad. The doctor said to clean it with alcohol (I hadn't because the hospital said not to). Anyway, it did fall off a few days later, but it still collects a little blood everyday. It has been over a week. He doesn't seem to be in pain, but it still worries me some. My other children didn't do that.
Baby boy also has acne around his eyes, cheeks, back to his ears and neck. Has anything come out that can get rid of it in the last three years?

The baby acne is NORMAL. Leave it alone. it will clear up on it's own.
That happened with my youngest, seemed that everytime i changed her there would be dried blood everywhere. The doc told us to really get in there with alcohol and as long as it wasn't activly bleeding it was not a problem. After a while it did lessen and eventually stop. She is now 7 mo. with one cute belly button. :} Congrats on your little boy.
Use witchazel with aloe for the navel, not as harsh as peroxide or rubbing alcohol.
Hi S. -
My youngest son had problems as well with bellybutton. He had to have it cauterized to take care of it. I can't remember how long after birth. Maybe a month? He's 3yrs old and no problems.
Also, Cetaphil skin cleanser is what I used to help with the baby acne. It's over the counter. Comes as a liquid form. Used to be a Blue label. A woman stopped me in the store and told me about it and I was amazed how much it cleared up the ance in just 24 hours. Otherwise, the acne will pass in a few weeks on it's own.
Hope that helps, I'm a mom of 3 boys.
