This is going to sound funny...but have you thought that the smell of the restaurant might make her hungry??? My son did the same everytime we went to sizzlers....maybe feeding her really good before you go out would help.
HELP, when we take our 4 1/2 month daughter to restaurants, she starts crying uncontrollably. This seems to only happen at restaurants. We took her to Black Angus on Tuesday and she cried for over an hour and a half straight. We tried changing her, feeding her, etc. Is there something I should know about bringing my baby out? She does not do this when I take her for walks in her stroller, or babies r us, the mall, etc. Does anyone know why she does this? We haven't been able to take her to eat at a restaurant.

Hi J.,
Have you tried wearing her in a sling or a bjorn? Some babies just don't feel comfortable with being around a lot of people and restarants can be noisy. She may feel more secure with you holding her close. Good luck to you----

Hi J.,
Colic is specific and doesn't apply here - she's just being fussy. Some kids just never get used to being in a restaurant, which means if you want to go to a restaurant you'll need to find a sitter. It just depends on the child. You might want to forgo those meals for a few months and then try again. Good luck.
My daughter did the EXACT same thing at restaraunts from about 3-6 months old. Basically they get overstimulated really easy and some babies are worse than others. My daughter was an easy going baby that never cried, but if we went into a loud/busy environment she would cry and nothing would soothe her except leaving the environment. It will get better very soon. My daughter loves being in any type of environment. She loves restaraunts and watching all the people. Just wait it out a little longer and it will get better. We thought we would never be able to go to a restaraunt again, but now we go around twice a week.
My boy also get's upset in loud environments. I think the other advice is right on, she may be overstimulated, and insecure.
I think I would try going to the same restaurant (a kid friendly one) a few times to see if she can get used to the environment.
I hold my son, since he doesn't sit up yet, but I think that makes him feel better. You could bring her in the stroller and see if she likes being in there when in the restaurant. She is probably going through a stage. Hang in there this too shall pass...
Good luck.
