Bad Mommy! - Waconia,MN

My friend and I are tossing around the idea of writing a book. We want to collect anecdotes from friends, family, and online communities, group them together, and then ask experts how much we need to worry about messing our kids up for life!

For example: I took three young children to the pool one afternoon. They all got hungry and cold, so we went in to the locker room. That's when I found out that the baby had messed in her diaper. While I was trying to clean her up, the middle one (who was potty training) tried to go to the restroom himself. He couldn't get his wet trunks off in time, and there was a mess everywhere! My oldest did well helping, but they still tell stories of being covered in poop, running into the shower, helping each other dry off, and then eating strawberries (the snack that I had reserved for the ride home... but I was still on clean-up duty!)!

Or the fact that we pre-set our TV to PBS so the kids can watch a little in the morning before they come to wake us up?

Or that we've been known to have chips and hummus and pickles for supper?

What are some of your "Bad Mommy" moments?

Me and my daughter have had Chinese take-out the last 3 Fridays. Only because its the end of the week, I am so tired and Friday is the only night we don't have anything on. We just veg out on the sofa watching movies :-) I am really needing to stop it now as its getting to be a BAD habit!! Oh its Friday today!! yum yum. :-0 My daughter also gets herself up on a Sunday to watch tv and the volume is not allowed to be above the No9 so it doesn't wake me. :-(

Well, at least you didn't make a 9-year-old run for 3 hours straight for eating a candy bar, resulting in her death. If letting your kids watch some TV in the morning so you can catch some extra sleep is the worst mommy sin you have committed, you are doing just fine in my book!

And just for the record, since we are stepping into the Mommy Confessional, I do the same thing - I try to get my daughter (age 4) to watch TV downstairs in the morning so I can get some extra sleep, I let her have McDonald's at least once a week (sometimes more), I don't buy all organic snacks, I let her play games on my phone for pooping on the potty, I let her stay at child care after preschool sometimes so I can get more work done around the house, I make her finish her dinner and bribe her with Oreos. I once made her do a time-out for acting up and she ended up falling asleep on the hardwood floor next to the bathroom in her time-out spot - because the whole reason for her acting up was because she was overtired. One night for dinner, when it was just her and me, I made mini corn muffins with a pieces of hot dog in each one to make mini corn dog muffins - and not a veggie in sight. But just the other day her preschool teacher told me she is the happiest, most well-adjusted kid she has ever seen. So there. I must be doing something right!

So when my son was little - and I mean 4ish maybe, he came up to me one night and said "Mommy, I am hungry". I reply, but we had dinner. His response - "No, Mommy, you forgot to feed us dinner!"

Um, yeah, seems I got caught up in doing stuff around the house, lost track of time, and had missed our regular meal time. Oops - talk about Bad Mommy.

11 years later and he still reminds me of the time I forgot to feed him.

I allow my children to play lots of rough-housing games with each other in spite of there being a 3 year, 30lb gap between them.

My kids can get breakfast ready for themselves, errr not so much my 5 year old but my 8 year old can do it all for them both and I actually have her do it on the weekends just so I can have a break some of the time.

We have "trained" our 7 y/o to let the dog out of our room, quietly close the door, intercept his little brother when he wakes up from coming into our room, get cereal out and cartoons on so we can sleep in a little ;)

My 13 yo daughter wanted to come with me to pick up a pizza, so I let her. When we got there I parked right in front and she asked if she could stay in the car and leave the keys so she could listen to the radio. I obliged. So I'm inside waiting for the pizza, I look out at her in the car and she is singing very enthusiastically (but of course I can't hear her only see her going to town singing and bopping her head). I laughed so friggin hard I thought I was going to pee my pants! I then proceeded to share my hysterics with the 3 other people in the pizza place. She looks over at me and totally busted me laughing at her. I laughed all the way home. She, however, was PISSED!!! Im cracking up right now just thinking about it! It's ok though, we've got a "therapy" fund for both our girls cuz they're going to need it.
