Baptism Gift Ideas? - Vancouver,WA

My husband and I were chosen as one set of godparents for our good friends' little girl. She is being baptized soon, although she is older, about 1 1/2. Although the extended family is Catholic, neither the child's parents nor us are very traditional or even really "religious" in the strict sense. I am trying to think of a good baptism gift we could give the little girl. I was thinking of a silver picture frame engraved with her name. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Thanks for the great suggestions! So many good ideas. I got a pretty silver music box and had it engraved.

James Avery Jewelry makes beautiful sterling charms and pendents.. Maybe you could choose one you like for her. Notice the Baptismal Shell that can be engraved.

As she gets older, you could continue to add onto the charm collection.. Each one representing her interest or the occasion..

I like the picture frame being engraved. You could have it engraved with her name, date of baptism and put a nice photo of her at the ceremony.

As godparents, you could do a piece of jewelry as a special gift from the two of you. If the family is not religious, then I would suggest either a simple cross (Crucifix may be over-the-top for them) or a dove (sign of the Holy Spirit). Stay within your budget, but remember that this is a big deal for Christians and you want to do something that will be around 25 years from now.

When my twin nieces were Baptised, we gave them each a small cross and an engraved jewelry box to keep them in.

My son received a children's bible and he loves it! We do attend Mass weekly, so the stories are familiar to him and it's part of our daily lives.

My favorite gift for my kids recent baptisms was a kid friendly bible. It's great to be able to read them a kid version of the bible stories. I also scrapbook, so someone gave me some scrapbook stuff to help remember the event.

I have seven God children, I have opened an individual bank account for each of them. I deposit a bond for their sacraments like christening, communion etc and for each birthday and Christmas, I deposit an amount.
Everyone godchild will receive it at their college graduation one day.

In my eastern eauropean roman catholic tradition is for the godmother to buy the christening outfit. We don't do crosses on necklasess as gifts, angels or other saint figures are more popular.

A nice heirloom keepsake is a personalized small pillow, picture frame with a picture of three of you. Since she is older, maybe a jewelry set or
personalized jewelry box ( pottery barn kids has a beautiful collection)

Congrats, being a god parent is honoring and a flattering role. The greatest gift to your god daughter is to be there for her and to be a positive example.

Regardless of religion or how much you/they practice their faith, I think that I cross is always a good baptism gift.

Each of my children have received a cross that is now hanging in their bedrooms.

I am the Godmother to a little boy, and I got him a satin nickel cross shaped trinket box and had it engraved with the date of his baptism on it.

I have also ordered from this website, before...they have a lot of possible items at affordable prices.

buy her a savings bond. thats what we do with all religious occasions. the kids always get a bunch of the usual stuff. cross's and books and frames. but a savings bond is something they will use later.

I have friends who were the same way and I found their son a guardian angel to hang in his room. It's kind of subtle. I also like the picture frame or jewelry idea.

My daughter received many gifts at her recent baptism. My favorite was a wall sign that said "Trust in the Lord with all your heart". Walking through your local Christian Book Store should give you some great ideas. We were pleased to find out that my daughter has a saint. St Lucy. I did not name my child after this saint but was pleased to find out she had a namesake. Look for things as such, even for things as she were to get older.
