You need to contact your landlord right away! Even it you treat your apartment, it could be coming from another apartment and them reinfest yours again. A professional needs to come out and evaluate the who property to isolate the problem and treat it. You can also get mattress covers that prevent bed bugs from living in them. I heard that Canine solutions does a good job of getting rid of the bugs. Good luck!
Hi W.,
I'm sorry you've spotted them - they are definitely an epidemic. I know some folks who've had them in their home. Hopefully you've spotted them in the early stages.
I think the only way you can get rid of them is to call an exterminator - and immediately. I believe you can get an 'organic' type which you may prefer because you have young children in the house. The exterminator will check all your mattresses, sofa, etc, so he will be able to tell you how far spread it is and how much needs to be treated.
This just happened to a friend of mine, so I am speaking from her experience. She caught it VERY early, so it was only on her mattress, hadn't even spread to her upholstered chair in her room. He treated her room, but then she took EVERYTHING (linens, clothes, towels) to the laundromat to wash it. The exterminator would let you know what to do.
To stop them from coming back I believe you can buy special mattress covers that don't allow them to get in and settle. May be a little pricey but worth it.
All the best to you,
N.
Where have you spotted the bugs? If it's on your sheets, I would immediately wrap them in a black garbage bag and get them to a high powered, high heat commercial laundromat. I would also immediately call in a bed bug expert to get it under control. I know that they can tell you what to do. Check your son's room for any signs of these guys - you can google to find out what the signs look like. I hope you've caught it early. Don't delay though - call an expert today.
