Mamas & papas-

Looking to retool the boys room. It currently has a kuva bed (a not too tall loft bed) a crib (in toddler bed format), a dresser, and an 8 cube storage unit. It is small 9x10 with two windows and a closet. I’d like to get someone to help me select ikea beds, desks, dressers and storage units for toys, school supplies, and gear, along with retooling the closet.

Any idea of who I would contact? Is this something ikea offers, I don’t think so, because while I see kitchen design, there doesn’t seem to be something that fits this need. Taskrabbit? Fiver? Craigslist?

I’m open to suggestions. Also need ideas on what to ask for in terms of qualifications, how to budget and what to ask for in terms of a product. Do I ask for designs and a shopping list?

Thanks much. Not wedded to ikea, but their flat pack, small profile furniture and low price points really hit the mark.

Best

We won a designer once - but it was more for colors and how to choose flooring and paint colors. It was extremely helpful though and I can see why people use them.

I wonder if there are Pinterest type sites that you could look at where you could type in 2 beds small room, etc. and get ideas for IKEA furniture, so at least if you do it on your own, you could see what would work? Houzz is a site that has a lot of pictures.

Pottery Barn Kids (and I'm sure other kid furniture stores) offer free design consultations - will come to your home I think. I know not quite like IKEA but for the convenience, might be worth it. I would just make sure it grows with your kids.

Speaking from experience, kids outgrow that kiddo look (and small furniture) so quickly. They quickly hit that tween stage.

Good luck :)

If you google "kids bedroom design nyc" you'll see articles about a few New York City businesses that specialize in decorating kids' bedrooms (some have been featured in the NY Times), along with some pinterest picture ideas. Have fun with it - maybe not too many more years before they will try to push back about you decorating the way you want to, lol!

I think there's a program IKEA put out to help with this.

I have no idea how to hire a designer/home decorator.

Additional:
One idea is to go with what a dorm room might fit - they are small and you learn to utilize all the space there is even if it's near the ceiling.
2 loft beds with desks underneath might work.
