Hi moms,
Just a quick question for those of you that went through being induced...
How long after being induced was your baby born?
I was induced, and my son was born about 3 hours after being induced, and my SIL is getting induced tomorrow morning, and her doctor is saying its still possible she won't have the baby for a few days after being induced... that makes no sense to me. Is that possible??
Thanks!!!

Possible. If she's not really ready and they don't break her water, it's possible that the pitocin won't start contractions right away. Would be better to let it happen on it's own, if that's possible. I think first time moms sometimes take longer, esp if their body isn't ready (not very far dilated or effaced).

I was induced with my first, it took 22 hours before she arrived. They had to break my water and give me pitocin.

I was 2 days post dates with my second child. Went in for induction around 8:30 am, began to feel contractions around 1:30 pm and had baby vaginally at 6:20 pm.

Hope that helps!

With my son I was induced early due to preeclampsia and I was in labor a full 26 hours and then still was not making any progress, ended up with an emergency c-section. Everybody handles it differently, hopefully she will only be a few short hours!

I was induced around 7:00 pm. Had my water broken around 8:30. Had an epidural around 11:00 p.m. and had my daughter at 4:55 a.m. No major issues for me and I'll hope the same for your SIL!
Best wishes!

As a first time mom, I was induced at around 4 AM and delivered about 1 PM, so 9 hours later I had my baby.

I was induced and it was 18 hrs of labor, then they took my son by C-section. My girlfiend was induced and it was about 8 hrs and completly natural birth. It is very different for eveyone and I think that the doc's are just trying to prepare her for the worst. Good Luck!

I was induced at about 11Pm and my daughter was born at 9AM on the dot the next morning which was hours sooner then they expected. The doctor told my family that we could probably expect a baby around dinnertime. In fact my nurse midwife came within minutes of missing the birth. Congratulations on becoming an Aunt!

Either your sil got confused with the information or her doctors don't know what they are doing. When you are induced that baby comes that day. Once they break the water (which they do when they are induce), the baby has to come out within 24 hours. The baby needs to be surrounded by the fluid to survive, they can't break it and wait for days. They need that baby out and whether you are able to push it out or they need to do a c-section, they need to get that baby out.

I had to be induced due to preeclampsia at 37 weeks and it took 76 hours for me to have my son ;-( I was also put on magnesium (for the high blood pressure) and it slows down your labor. So it's different for everyone. For one of my girlfriends it took 22 hours and she had the same situation as me-A. ;-)

I was induced with my first on a monday night and 36 hours later, Wednesday a.m., had an emergency c-section!
But that was a bit unusual and I didn't want to stray from my birth plan.

I was induced with my son at 7 a.m. and had him at 2 p.m. My doctor said I probably would have went into labor on my own that same day and being induced just really helped it along. A friend of mine was induced at night on Dec. 31st and didn't have her daughter until early morning Jan. 2nd. She had to have 2 rounds of inducing because her daughter just did not want to come out. So it is possible. Try not to scare your SIL with some of these stories. It helps to have a positive attitude. Also, sometimes when you get the epidural it can stop labor progression, which is what happened to my friend. So if she can hold off on getting one in the beginning of labor, it might be better. Congratulations on being an aunt!

My induction began at 8 am, and I had my son at 9:30 the next morning. Then again, I wasn't really dialated or effaced much at all when we began. It all depends on how ready your body is.

I think your experience was not the usual. I was induced around 1pm and around 9pm when I had to have an emergency c-section, I was only dialated to around 7 cm... I think the doctor is trying to prepare her for the worst. I could easily have been in labor for 4-6 more hours... You just don't know what will happen. Also, an epidural given early on in labor can really slow things down.
