I would also vote for Ambergris Caye/San Pedro. Another thought would be to stay at one of Francis Ford Coppola's resorts. He's got 3 of them in Belize all seem to be in secluded areas.
My husband and I are looking into going to Belize in May for our 10 year anniversary. We're not looking to stay right in the city but maybe somewhere that is not as busy, more of a seculeded type place. Would love any input if you've ever gone to this area. Thanks!

I went to Belize about 7 years ago on a mission trip, and it was amazing. We stayed for a few days at a small hotel that wasn't really in the best part of town. I can't remember the name, but we loved it. Then we had some days of vacation time in San Pedro, and it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! I wish I could remember the name of that hotel, but I have no idea. It is an area with a lot of resorts and hotels, but it never seemed 'busy' You may want to check out San Pedro. We were right on the beach. Good luck looking, and have a lot of fun!!
Go snorkeling for sure because it's one of the largest coral reefs in the world!! Water is crystal clear. If you can afford it and have time, you should look at going to the Blue Hole if you're into scuba. We didn't get to do it, but it looks cool. It's an awesome awesome scuba diving area. You can probably google it.
Hi H., I'm not sure which city you're thinking of staying in, but I would go to Ambergris Caye and stay in San Pedro. Most of the cities in the mainland are not tropical, and they're a little depressing - kind of like Mexico City. However, while you're on the island, you can take some great excursions to the mainland (or even into Mexico) to see ruins, rainforests, etc. Within San Pedro, I've only stayed at two places, neither of which was especially luxe. But there are some really nice resorts there - you might check out tripadvisor.com to see which ones have the best ratings. There are a ton of reviews on there too.For our honeymoon, we stayed at Trade Winds Villas, which was clean and very spacious, right on the beach, with a beautiful pool, but it didn't have a restaurant or bar onsite. By the way, Elvi's is great for dinner!
San Pedro Town on Ambergris Cay. It's beautiful! We went there on our cruise and really just want to fly into Belize and go spend 2 weeks there. I don't think there's anything fancy on the island. It's a place to kick back, wear shorts/t shirts/swimwear and just be at peace for a while!
