Bendaroos

Do your kids like Bendaroos? Do they really work the way the ads show? Can a four-year-old work with them easily? My daughter keeps talking about them, so I looked around the internet to see what they are any how they work. I found mostly bad reviews -- of the product itself, and of the company.

My daughter recently found some pipe cleaners I'd stuck in her art cabinet several months ago. She calls them Bendaroos and seems happy with them. I don't mind buying the Bendaroos if they are as much fun as the ads show; if not, we'll just stick with the pipe cleaners for a while.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I didn't realize they were available in stores. I may pick up a small pack to see how she likes them. She generally doesn't like to get her hands "yucky", so they may not go over so well if they feel sticky or leave her hands sticky. She's been having fun with the pipe cleaners, though -- we'll definitely keep those around.

Better yet, we may go to Mac's this weekend (love their onion rings!) and let her play with them there!

Incidentally, most of the product reviews I read expressed exactly the concerns listed here -- sticky, don't stay in shape for your design, etc; OR, the reviewers loved them and were able to do a lot with them. Almost every review of the company (ordering online or by telephone) was terrible -- unclear pricing, lots of pitches for other products while completing the order, not receiving or long delays in receiving the product.

Thanks again for your input.

As a teacher I used a product called Wikki Sticks (which appear to be the same thing) and they were terrific. We used them to work on some art skills, but we mostly used them as a way for the kids to "create" their spelling words on their desks (something the tactile learners really seemed to benefit from). Mine held up and worked well for several years, though after a bit of handling the color did start to look a bit dirty. They were not at all sticky and did a pretty good job of holding their shape.

My 6, 4 & 2 yr old love them, but once they fall on the rug they are trashed ... the fuzz gets permanently stuck to them. Once our current stash is gone, we won't replace them.

I have a family I babysit that has them.... I do not care for them... They left my hands sticky and it was pretty much yarn/wire/covered in wax sticks....

Find something else... Exp for not a lot of product too.

If you do plan on getting them though Khols has some but a different brand same concept. Cheaper.. Big box was like $15.

My older son said they have them in his classroom and they are terrible. He said they have a "sticky" surface and everything sticks to them and they get all "gunky" (his word!). I'd keep using the pipe cleaners... cheap and fun!

My daughter got some in a party bag or something like that and was very disappointed in them. She had been begging for them for a while and ever since she got those, she's not asked for any again. I've not once seen her play with them since the week after she got them either. I think she said they got all sticky or something like that. HTH :-)

Blessings,

I bought a pack for my daughter in November. They are alright all they are is wax. The designs are hard to make so the kids end up making balls of mess but they have fun doing it. I tried to make a sea horse for her and it looked okay. you can get a small pack at wal-mart for $5.00. Oh and my cat loved to eat n play with them so watch out. My opinion would be to buy the cheaper pack and let her play with them your only out a few dollars and she is happy.

I have a different brand but same concept product that I use in my first grade classroom. They work great for shaping into letters and words but I don't see how they would do what the TV ads show!

They are garbage! My kids had been asking for them...so I finally got a small pack. They and I were not happy with them. They do come with an instruction guide, but even I didn't want to take the time to construct something. It was too much for little kids with short attention spans and want to see items made quickly. They did have fun making their own creations which weren't much. But after a day or two they ended up in the trash. They are very sticky to the hands and don't hold their sticky shape to each other.

I just bought the big 500 piece set at Toys R Us because my daughter LOVES them. We were on vacation and instead of crayolas they gave her a small set of them to keep her busy at the restraunt. She played with them for hours and she is just not an "artsy" type child.

Anyway, I haven't looked up any reviews on them I just bought them because she loved playing with them so much. The ones we had worked just like what you see on TV. However, she didn't make the fancy things she used her imagination and made all sorts of things that looked good to her. We just let her do whatever she wanted to with them rather than trying to make the animals etc.

My six year old got sucked in by the commercial and so I suprised him with a set prior to a big road trip last spring. He was frustrated, I was dissapointed and overall just NOT what we expected. We couldn't do any of the things the TV showed, but he did other things and was very creative. A lot of hamburgers and balls were made and some interesting stick people -lol!
It is novel and fun for a little while, but I'd stick with the pipe cleaners! :)

My kids had one of the Klutz book activity projects. Their book was a pipe cleaner book and all these shapes and characters you can make with pipecleaners, they really enjoyed it, great activity for a long car trip.

My grand daughter wanted them, too. One day, we had lunch at Macs Grill (near the corner of Little Rd. and I-20). They gave them to her to play with. She has us make things for her but she isn't that crazy about having them anymore. I personally don't care for them. hth

I bought the off brand at Wal-green's for my neices who are 5. They loved them. They made flowers and trucks all kind of stuff. My 12 year old was not impressed. I do not know how long they lasted.

My kids haven't used them, but they're one of the only things they've asked for for Christmas. I've heard not-great things about them too, so I just bought them both a small pack (I think they were $6) and we plan to use them as a stocking stuffer. I figure they'll get $6 worth of pleasure out of them before they realize they aren't that great. :-)

IMHO it's a waste of money. Not as fun as the t.v. makes it to be. It's kinda like messing with candle wax. Spend your money on something else. I ended up tossing ours. =)
