Best "It's Time to Get Up" Clock for Toddlers?

I have an almost 2 yr old who just graduated to a big bed. When he slept in his crib he would wake up before everyone else and play quietly(sometimes for up to 45 mins) until I went to get him. Not any more! He is okay with laying quietly in bed at night to fall asleep (of course I am talking to him about night night and to stay in bed and be quiet as I am tucking him in) but I think he forgets by morning that he is supposed to stay quiet and stay in bed until I come to get him. I tried putting the door knob cover on the inside of the door and the little booger figured it out after a couple of days! I don't want to lock the door b/c from the outside it is time consuming to open and seems like a safety hazard (I am thinking fire in the house or child hurt inside and those few extra seconds to get the door unlocked could make all the difference) SO! Any book suggestions or INEXPENSIVE clocks? I have seen ones for $50+ and I refuse to spend that much! Surely there is an affordable day to night clock out there?!?!?

What can I do next?

We got a fish aquarium light from Walmart for like 10 bucks. We set it on a timer for 7:00 and told him that he can get out of his bed when his fishes come on. At night he says "see you when the fishes come on." It works pretty well. We still have mornings where he insists on coming in at 6:00 to see us...Good luck!! :)

I just this morning was thinking about the same thing. For some reason if my little guys wakes up after 6:00, he will not go back to bed. I remember hearing about this type of nightlight that will show a sun when it is appropriate to get up. You get to set the time where the sun displays! I'm going to order this, it is $34.99 and and has a 30 day money back guarantee.

My son is almost 2 as well, so for me to say "when the clock says ___" wouldn't work yet, he doesn't know his numbers!

We used a regular digital clock and covered the minute numbers with tape. "When the clock says 7, you can come out to the kitchen..."
Then we taped a number 7 above the clock.
Works like a charm.
YMMV

The best part of my day is when my toddlers come bouncing and laughing onto my bed in the morning. They can't wait to see me and I can't wait to get those sweet little baby hugs. Once we've had our hugs and kisses and greeted the day, I tell them to go back to thier room and play quitely until mommy gets up.

You just have your 3 year old roll over and say "Shhh! Its night night time." That would be less expensive! ;)

Hi,
Onestepahead.com has one for $39.99. You could also try Amazon, I know they sell some of the One Step Ahead merchandise.

Put a gate at his door so he can't escape.

Will he climb over a gate? If not, then put the gate up so that you can still hear him and he can get out of bed and play in a safe environment until you get up.

Get an analog clock large enough to stick stickers where the hands need to be when he's allowed to get out of bed. Could be a cool craft project, if you're in to that, or it could be as simple as buying a pack of gold stars or just digging out some masking tape.
Actually, I think someone already suggested that, but I second it.
