My 6 month old really likes her binky. My 2 others babies didnt use it past 2-3 months. So im a little woriied that she will be dependant on it for a long time. I try not to give it to her but she makes a kinda of whiney, moaning sound until i do. For naps and bedtime i give it to her if she is fussing or having trounle falling asleep. How did you curb this habbit and at what age? Did it happen naturally or did you have to take it? Im not a fan of 2 or 3 years olds walking around with a pacifier. I know they dont need it at that age, but is 6 months too young to try to stop or slow it?

What can I do next?

Neither one of my kids were binky babies. but my cousins has two kids 4 and 2. her oldest had one until he was three and weened himself. He only had the binky at nap and bedtime though as does the youngest. My cousin is one that will not have her kids walking around with them in their mouths. If it is a comfort thing let her have it at nap and bedtime. My guess is she will grow out of it and ween herself.

my first gave it up at 9 months. my second, nearly 2 now, still uses hers. they are different children. the good news is that it's not a harmful habit. many kids need the comfort they provide. when you notice her forgetting it just flow with it.

my 2 year old is super bright, lovely, caring, and gentle. if a pacifier makes her happier then I'm all for it.

No, I don't think 6 months is too young to take the pacifier away. It will be easier now than if you wait until they are 2 or 3, which is what I did. I ended up limiting it to naps and bedtime and then went cold turkey, it was a rough week but after that he was fully weaned of it.

If you take it away now, she'll most likely fuss a bit longer than usual but will then figure out another way to fall asleep without it, perhaps holding a safe toy will help take her mind off of it?

This is the one thing I never got worried about. If it makes her happy, let
her have it. As she gets older try to just let her have it when in her crib
only (nap and bedtime or just quiet time). Sometimes that is easier said
than done.

My daughter was in love with her binky from the moment they gave her one in the hospital. :) Then, around 9 months, she started just using it at nap/bed time (although mostly bedtime b/c she didn't nap much) Maybe your daughter will naturally use it less as she gets older?

We took it away from her when she turned one. We had a couple of nights where it took a little longer than normal for her to fall asleep and she was crabby, but she forgot about it in a few days. She didn't have a "transition" item, but I suppose it might have helped.

my first never wanted the pacifier and my second one did... My second just turned 3 and about 6 months prior to that 3 year birthday we talked and talked about how she will no longer have the binky (or the pull ups ) after she turns three. (We cut down with the binky about a year ago to nights only so she was never walking around with it when she was two... only slept with it.)... So, she turned three and guess what!? No pacifier and she's completely potty trained for four weeks now. (knock on wood!) There is one last binky that sits within arms reach of her in the bathroom on the shelf (I actually made a little hole in it which she doesn't know about) and she has yet to even touch it. ( She knows it's there.)

Well, I was always happy when my kids had a "transitional" item that would sooth them, so I have never taken the binky away. Two of my kids had a binky, 3 had the thumb. To me, it makes no difference, if it helps them to self-soothe. But, they ALL needed braces so far :)

My oldest wouldn't take one - no matter *how* much I tried - so I was her pacifier. My middle one took one right away and kept it till she turned 2. For the last few months she was only allowed to have it in bed, and then only when she asked. It was a pretty seamless process getting her to give it up. My youngest is also anti-paci. It all depends on the kid.

In my opinion, a pacifier is a HELL of a lot better than sucking her thumb. But that's just me.

we had to take the binky away from all 3 of our boys by 3 months old due to them having cleft lip and palate and they had their lips repaired at 3 months. we just took it away and they fussed for a few nights but then were okay. good luck. i would try cold turkey if you can handle the fussing and crying. better to get her off of it then to replace it with something else you'll have to take away eventually.

My son is 2 years old and still has a binky. I don't see anything wrong with that. He is still teething and it's a great way to help sooth him. My oldest son was taken off the binky at 2 1/2 years old, and how we did that is by telling him about the binky fairy, and that she needs the binkies for all the other babies and that he doesn't need it anymore because he's a big boy. Worked like a charm.

We had the binky fairy come right before my child turned 3. I wouldn't worry too much about it at 6 months, unless it really bothers you.
