I am thinking of going with Mirena this time. But I would really like to know how was your experience with it? Would you use it again? Why you liked it so much? Or why you did not like it.

I've had an incredible experience with the Mirena--no side effects, no periods, just wonderfulness!!!

Not everyone has had the same positive experience. I guess a woman doesn't know what she will experience until she tries it. Not fun if it doesn't work out well.

Good luck!

I've had Mirena for a year and a half - I've had maybe 2 periods since. I don't know about the weight gain as I'd like to have something to blame my 10 lbs to however once I stopped breastfeeding my appetite has stayed the same so not sure I can place the blame on Mirena!!!!!!!! I used to get AWFUL cramps but due to rarely getting a period I don't have to worry about it!!

regarding a previous poster - birth control is used to prevent pregnancy as there aren't that many people that can or want to have 11 kids (my father is the youngest of 10 and I haven't met another as patient and kind as my grandmother)......

Mirena is the most awful thing on this planet.

Good news is, you feel normal again almost immediately when you have it removed :)

Personally, I wouldn't bother with it to begin with!! AWFUL!

I loved the Mirena until I started gaining weight! I gained about 20 pounds. Am still struggling to take off the weight after having it removed. Other than the weight gain, it was great. No period at all for 1 1/2 years. I wish you the best.

The good: I JUST had my period (for all of 3 days) for the first time in 2 years. I don't have to think about it, no worry about forgetting (how my 2 girls came into our life).

The bad: ACNE! OMG I've started to look like a hormonal 14 year old! Wasn't aware of the weight gain that others have posted but I'm willing to say my extra 15 lbs are due to it :-). Lastly, hubby complains (ready for TMI?) that he can feel it when we're having sex which kinda annoys him.

Oh and make sure your insurance pays for it. Mine didn't and I had to pay a little over $600!

I have had it for a year without a problem. I would recommend not only asking your insurance if they will cover it and at what percentage but to get it in writing. I had a dispute that was settled in my favor but it took some time since I had no written document. Mirena can cost up to $2,000.

I got mine inserted in the middle of May and just had to call the doc for birthcontrol pills to stop the bleeding because I have spot bled and felt yucky since then. Now that I have been taking the birthcontrol pills the bleeding has stopped. I do think it has caused mood swings, I am a lot more cranky lately and upset easily. Gonna give it another month after this temp pill pack runs out and see what happens.

in the minority - i had a bad experience - could not lose weight at all no matter what I did - literally not even an ounce. Took it out and within two weeks starting losing weight again. it mimics pregnancy in your body - same type of hormone - and if you've ever had depo-prova it's the same thing - i also had a bad reaction to that. good luck

My experience is like Jessica's I am on my second one and I have had only one side effect acne . Yes I have gained weight but also I am getting older I didn't gain weight with the first one I started gaining weight after I got the second. And I am almost 35 so my metabelism must have started slowing down.

it is NOT the same thing as depo shot. I bled for 6 months strait on depo. I have no period on Mirena. Mirena is like the mini pill plus barrier. It has horrimones in it but little.

I have had wonderful luck with mine. I too have had a bit of an acne problem, but nothing out of control. I do have to say that the first 6 months I did have a period off and on, but after that time period they went completely away. LOVE IT!!!

Birth control is very unnatural and can cause cancer in the future. Have you considered Natural Family Planning? One of the reasons I use Natural Family Planning is that I can't stand the thought of putting all those fake hormones into my body and forcing it to behave in an unnatural way.
