I have kind of a not so fun question for you guys. I am on the Nuva Ring and have been for about 7 months. I was wondering if anyone else was on it. My OB GYN told me I would have a little bit of extra vaginal discharge b/c of the ring being in there but lately it seems to have gotten worse. I am having more. I know it is not an STD or anything because, well, I am not having sex. I am really on BC to regulate my period and want to make sure I am on something for when I do start having sex. (The boyfriend and I are being good and waiting {by the way it sucks and it hard lol}) If anyone else is on this and has the same problem or knows of another type of good easy to deal with BC let me know please. I don't do well with the pill b/c I forget and I don't like patch. I know I am incredibly picky. LOL

What can I do next?

I was on the Nuvaring for 1 year. I really liked it (I was ok with the pill, but it didn't work- I got pregnant!) Well, I did have increased vaginal discharge. It came & went. I think I had more discharge when I hadn't placed it totally right. If you notice more, I recommend either adjusting it or reinserting it. Also, panytliners help keep you fresher! :) Hope this helps!

Unless they have done away with the depovera shot, I would advise that. I used it before and after my 2 last pregnancies and it was ideal...one shot once every 3 months. No additional side effects.
I haven't used it for about 6 years, because about a year or so after my last child, hubs got the snip-snip. :)

Hey J.! I am also on Nuva Ring for the second time. I know what you mean about the additional discharge. The first month I used it, I was having to wear pantyliners, then it got under control. But the longer I have it, I notice that it cycles. About every 4-6 months, the discharge goes crazy. So if you can deal with it hang in there. But beyond the nuvaring, the pill and the patch, I can't offer any advise, for regulating periods. The only other options are the shot and IUD, and those are not so much for regulating periods. Best of luck to you...

Hey Jenni - I have been utilizing the Nuvo Ring for about a year now. I too was not good at taking my birth control pill and the patch was just not cool - the sticky goo and having it stuck on me was just a pain. I have not experience any craziness with the ring...it just took some getting use to. Have you thought about an IUD? My friend just got one and she loves it...I am thinking about going that direction.

I was on the nuva ring right when it first came out until we decided to start trying for children. I loved it! Its the best around in my opinion, but you do have the discharge thing. Its not too bad but its there. If you are really concerned about it I would call your doctor. Even though you aren't having sex, you can still get an STD. The really FUN part about being a woman is that we can pick them up from toilet seats, or the little benches at swimming pools and anyway else that we are exposed to something. Definatly call you Dr, the nuva ring is great, but if you have been on it for a while and are just now getting more dishcharge, there is probably something else going on. It may be something simple like just a change in your body's pH balance or anything all the way up to an STD. Its probably NOT an STD, but either way, go see your doctor, if she/he tells you its normal, insist something has changed and that you really want it checked out.
Hope this helps!

Hi J.,
I have the same problem as you. Every type of birth control does not agree with me (even prophylactics). I think I have tried just about everything you can try. My body does not want to be altered. I would suggest to you not to do the "ring" anything that causes more problems then you had to begin with. Stay away from.

hi J., i read all the responses before i decided to answer.i'm not an expert on the subject, but not one person mentioned the iuc (intrauterine contraceptive) Mirena. it is the one on the commercials that is shaped like a y. it's completely painless to put in. i don't really understand why it does not hurt, but i swear on my life i didn't even know they did it until they said all done! it took 10 seconds to insert. it lasts for 5 years. you will continue to have your period for round about six months, probably less, and one every once in a while the next six months but they are very light and like 3 days long. after a year, you won't have one at all. there are absolutely NO complications that i, my sister, and my sister in law have had. we all love it. i'm sure your doctor can tell you the complications that are possible, but unlikely from my experience. you don't even know it's there. i hope you ask your doctor about the mirena, i know you will be happy with it. let me know how it goes~!

I know you said you don't like taking the pill because you forget But I am currenly on the Yasmin pill and I couldn't be happier with it. I was pretty forgetful when it came to taking the pill. What I do is put my pills with my toothbrush and toothpaste and when I brush my teeth at night I take it then. Plus I'm taking it about the same time everyday.

i tried the ring for a while but i didn't like it much.. in the two months that i used it i had it come out during sex about 10 times. and seeing as i got pregnant on the pill that freaked me out jsut a lil bit. so far the only birth control i have been able to trust is an IUD. i had one inserted after my son was born 4 years ago and last year had it removed and tried a few other things but had another one oput back in... it does wonders for periods lol. i haven't had one since before i gave birth to my son. so that was over 5 years ago.

I would say you should call your OB/GYN office and speak to a nurse or something, and tell them that you are experiencing more discharge than usual. Most likely, they will want you to come in for an appt to make sure there is no infection or bacteria of any sort. You can then go over different bc options with your dr. One you might think about is the shot. I have never had it, but some of my friends say they really like it b/c they only have to get it once a yr (I think....I know it's not very often) and they don't ever have to worry about it. I don't think it is supposed to cause any wierd discharge or anything. The only complaint I have ever heard is that it can make your periods unpredictable, or even make it where you don't have one at all. Just talk to your dr. and see what he/she says.

J.,
I am also on Nuva Ring. I started it about 2 months ago and just started noticing increasing discharge. It's something I try to deal with since every other hormonal method seems to make me sick. I think the patch would give the same effects. I was told by my OB that this would be the case so I think it's fairly normal. Sorry.
God Bless. Hang in there waiting for sex. It's worth it.
