what if you used curly ribbon and tied the crayons to the car seat so she can't drop them on the floor?
Hi Moms,
Recently my daughter has started biting her fingers and toes, usually when she is in the car seat. She has occaisonally made her cuticles bleed! I think it is probably becuase she is bored, but I have not found anything practical that can keep her interest in the car (coloring books worked, but I kept having to pull over an pick up crayons, so that one was not very practical, I also tried a music toy that plays different songs, but she does not sem to like it for long ).
What do your 2 1/2 year olds play with in the car?
And any suggestions on how to stop the biting?
Thanks!

My 4 yr old also bites his finger nails and toes...I asked the Dr. about it and he showed me his hands (he also bites his nails) and said that it is a better habit than smoking and not to worry about it!
I have tried not to make him too self conscience about it...but I don't know? My mom bites her nails all the way down to the nail bed and her nails are non-existent these days...
Sorry I wasn't much help...just wanted to let you know, that you are not alone!
Why do you have to pull over to pick up crayons? She'll learn to not drop them if you don't pick them up for her.
My grandchildren, ages 7 and 10 still chew on their fingers and toes. No blood tho. I think she'll learn to not cause the cuticle to bleed.
Have you tried giving her an assortment of small toys? Or playing a music or story CD?
One of the things my kids play with in the car is an etch a sketch or magna doodle. Sometimes books will work. Being a nail biter myself and for as long as I can remember, I understand. One of the things you can try is painting her fingers and toes. Make sure the nail polish is safe, and she will think her nails look so nice she won't want to bite them. That is until the polish begins to chip, so you would have to repaint them. Also try to clip them before she has the opportunity to bite them. It would be easier to break the habit now than it will be a few years from now. Good luck.
I have a nail biting son....try this web site for "chewlery and chewies" www.theraproducts.com The products are good for biters.
