Hi moms,
Today EddyZ came to make an offer on blackout shades for my sons bedroom and I was completely shocked by the price. they ask more than 1500 usd for 3 windows and 1 sliding door. I looked online but I'm reluctant to order online as i'm afraid that it will turn out wrong and you have to mount it yourself.
we really need the shades for our 2 year old because he wakes up at 5 am if his room isn't dark enough and I don't want to keep the plastic contractor waste bags in front of the windows to keep it dark.
Can anyone recommand a company that is reliable and has reasonable pricing?
thanks moms!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the tips. Seems like linen and things and home depot have good and cheaper alternatives. I'll go check those out.

I bought white panels of black out shades from Linens n' Things (bed, bath, and beyond would also have them) and a simple rod to hang them. It took 3 panels for a pretty large window and for 2 rooms/windows cost about $120 total. They really help!

You can buy "disposable"shades -yes blackout ones at Linens'n Things and Home depot. They cost 8$ for each window and they are self stick. They look great - are a little flimsy but I have them in my kids' rooms and they are wonderful. Please look into this! They are designed for temporary use but I have had them up for close to a year and they're fine. In the meantime you don't have to rush around for a solution to your probelm.
Good luck!!

Hi, I ordered blackout shades from Home Depot. There is a $25 measurement & installation fee, however that fee is deducted from the price of the shades once you place an order. Home Depot is always having sales, so ask when the next one will be. I think I purchased mine last Aug and there was a sale at that time. They also offer the 6 or 12 mt no interest if you charge on their credit card. The installers are very professional and if you are unhappy for ANY reason, they will reorder and install new blinds with no questions asked. One plus about blackout shades is that they have built-in insulation for the cold winter months!

Hi M.,
I had the same issue with Eddy Z..too expensive. I went to Home Depot with my window sizes and picked out what I needed. They also offer installation. I saved alot of money and my windows look great. They have a good selection also.
Good Luck!

Try Budget Blinds. My friend had good experiences with them. They come out and measure and install for you.

We got the pulldown vinyl shades at Home Depot to go under my daughter's curtains and they worked great! They were like $20 ea, too. My parents had done that for my brothers when they were little and had a full eastern exposure, and it was always dark as night in their room until the shades were raised.

Try JcPenney's. I ordered all my blinds from them, and they are good quality, and have the option for room darkening. They will run specials for 60% off your order, you just need to watch the sale papers or ask the window treatment consultants.
