Bladder Leaking :(

I am 36 years old, I just had my third baby 3 mos. ago and today my bladder is leaking like crazy. It happens pretty much without warning--a panty liner is not enough. Why would this start NOW? It happened a very little at the end of my pregnancy (thought it was amniotic fluid but it wasn't). It hasn't happened since then and today--BAM. I don't even feel the urge to go and it happens. All three of my pregnancies were c-sections though I did try to push baby number one out for 3.5 hrs.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So after reading the first post, I immediately started doing kegels. And it stopped the next day. I have no idea what was going on. It was like the valve on my bladder was broken the day it happened and now it hasn't happened since. Very strange. I am still kegeling so it doesn't start up again!

Run, don't walk to your OB/GYN and tell him/her what's up. There is a surgery to correct. I waited a good 5 years longer than I should have and I kick myself every day for not being more forthright about this. I was so embarrassed to have the same problem as my GRANDMOTHER!!!! My leakage was so bad that I was bringing a change of clothes to work, just in case. I couldn't run, jump, sneeze, or cough without fear of embarrassment.

For me, the surgery to correct was a breeze. It was one night in the hospital and about 8 weeks of recovery. I know that sounds like a lot of time, but two other women I work with did the same surgery and didn't take proper care with their recovery (not overdoing things) and that delayed their recoveries. Most importantly, make sure your surgeon is well-practiced in this surgery.

This surgery was one of the best things I've ever done (other than my kids and getting my tubes tied). I feel like I've been given a new lease on life. Please, talk to your doctor. There is help for this. Don't live with the embarrassment for years like I did.

Good luck.

Definitely talk to your OB/GYN. There are different reasons that may cause this, and your doctor may help find out which one.
First thing to try is of course Kegels. It may be as simple as doing kegels every time you go to the bathroom.
If it does not improve with Kegels, you could consider drugs or surgery later.
Also, if you have leaking problem when you stand up from a sitting position, which happens/happened to me often, I found out that lifting your front first rather than your rear from the seat helps! I was thinking how I can spread out the word for women who have this problem!

You could always consult with your OB. I did & he steared me away from surgery. He pretty much refused it & suggested kegels, ( i'm going to try pilates now!) It is embarrassing to say the least. Some days are worse than others. Maybe just try to goto the bathroom every 2 hrs or so also. Sometimes we get so busy we dont realize we have to go.! I had 2 c-sections myself.

I was having problems and asked my midwife and she recommended taking up pilates, strengthening the core muscles. A lot of people will say kegels but that's not the only problem. The weight of pregnancy and the baby pushes and pulls everything where it doesn't go and weakens muscles that hold everything in their place. It's not just because you had a vaginal birth.
I began the most basic of pilates exercises and have noticed a huge improvement. It's not 100% gone but neither is the muscle damage from my third that spent most of the third trimester sideways, I'm still working on it. She's only 23 months old, I didn't start right away and I don't get to do it every other day like I need to. The Plank is the best thing to start with. Also squats so you strengthen your glutes. The plus side to those is you'll get a better looking butt ;)
I didn't want to go surgery or medicines if something else worked and this is absolutely working.
TMI, but the last time I got a stomach bug I wasn't peeing myself every time I threw up. I could not believe how excited I was by that LOL

I would start kegeling, kegeling, and kegeling some more...every chance you get...while nursing, while peeing....

And call your OB for a referral to a urologist.

There are many other things that could have happened to cause this. Don't wait though for it to resolve.

Are you about to get your period? I ask b/c I too have a leakage problem and it gets worse around my period.

I talked to my OB about it and she said she has heard that quite a bit but didn't have a medical reason as to why. I use the Posie pads... they work well.. but I don't need them all the time. You may want to PM the lady who was talking about the surgery and ask her specifically what she had done (the name of the procedure) as she didn't really give you any information that is of help!
