Body Pains - Result of Carrying Kids Too Much?

Earlier this I have started experiencing pain in my right hip. Thought perhaps it was a result of bumping into something that I couldn't remember.... the pain hasn't gone away, so I wen to the Dr. who did an x-ray and didn't find anything. I took steriods, which hasn't helped. Now I have a pain in my neck (same side) which I thought was a crick, but still hasn't gotten better in a week now. Could this be from carrying the 2 kids on that same side too much?? Has anyone else experienced this from their kids? (I've purchased a new extra support pillow for my neck, but it's provided minimal relief.) Thanks for any ideas for comfort and suggestions. :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to all who responded so quickly! I have started seeing a chiropractor now, and he's found multiple curvatures - 1 in my back which may be a result of the kids, and 1 in my neck which may be from sitting at the computer at work so much or from previous car accidents (years ago). He's put me on a treatment plan now, and I'm already feeling the benefits (though some pain still lingers, so I hope it's a cure all around!) I'm also getting my youngest to walk more than before, or getting daddy to help alleviate some strain on me.

Thanks again to all!

Hello M.,

I hope you're feeling better. I also recommend you see a chiropractor. and... are you taking enough calcium, magnesium, omega-3s and vitamin D?

Also, check your shoes (one more worn than the other? and also check your purse/bag. you can also rub some lavender oil on your neck to help you relax.

check your posture when you're standing (kid 'free' of course... hard to do while holding the babies) Well, that's all I can think of for now. I hope you feel better soon! ~C.~

I actually went to the doctor last week thinking I had torn some tendons in my foot. It was so painful my husband had to carry me to the car. I just knew I had either broken a bone, or had messed up my tendons. Come to find out, it was nothing more than a bad sprain! I could not think of one single thing I had done to sprain my foot. Then I told my doctor I carry my 20 pound son, along with the diaper bag, carseat...you know all the typical baby paraphanalia...on the same side my foot was sprained. He said that all that stress was most likely what caused the pain. So for a week I had to be on crutches. When I carried the baby I had to use the other side. So even after birth they still affect our bodies!

I too think you should see a Chiropractor. I was in LOTS of pain after I had my first baby and a friend told me my hips were probably out of alignment. She sent me to a chiro and he adjusted me a few times and I was good as new. I went after my second baby and my hips were WAY off. 2 adjustments and I feel like a million bucks. I think you will get quick results and be happy that you went that route. Good luck

i would go see a chiropractor. if your hipis out of alignment then it can cause other things to become unaligned. dr angel santiago in lewisville is my chiropractor,or a dr. bradstock in plano. i would recommend both.

I highly recommend you see a chiropractor. I was a skeptic until I started seeing one for my migraines and it turned out that my headaches were caused by a neck injury from a car accident. My headaches are almost completely gone after a couple of years of chiropractic care. My father had pain in his foot for months and he thought it was a foot problem. Turned out to be a pinched nerve in his lower spine that was connected to his foot. All his foot-related treatments were wasted because he should have been treating his spine instead. A chiropractor can help you determine what's really wrong and offer treatment options.

check out Airrosti therapy! my best explanation is that it does for muscles what chiropractic care does for bones, if the x ray showed nothing then it may be a muscular problem. I had sever back and neck problems for YEARS, I had immediate relief after the first apt. and was in therapy a total of 3 times in less than 7 days and I consider myself cured! which is a miracle! and it was less expensive than going to a physical therapist, my insurance covered it all but the $25 copay, PT would have been $45, and I've done a lot of PT over the years for the same problem, with never any lasting results or as significant. the Airrosti Dr will tell you that if it works you will see results fast and if id doesn't work you will know fast also... unlike PT or chiropractic care where you just have to keep going back, this will either solve the problem or not. they will also teach you how to minimize injury in the future...

I strongly encourage you to try it, you wont be disappointed. www.airrosti.com I saw the Dr in Keller, Smith is his last name, they are located on 1709 near Rufe Snow across from the starbucks. call them right away!

I JUST went to dr. yesterday for a very similar situation. My shoulder was bothering me and then spread over my back to the other shoulder. My problem is my purse! I hadn't even thought about the kids, but now that you mention it, I'm sure that has aggravated it as well. Overnight my hips also started bothering me. I seriously am starting to feel like an 80 year old woman! I've stopped lugging this huge purse around and now will have my little ones walk a little more...can't give that up just yet! :) Good luck to you and hope you feel better soon! Check your purse though...it may be the culprit ;)

yes.

I have the same issues if I do not do a full body workout at least once a week. If you insurance pays for chiropractor visits, you should go. Also, there's a way you can roll up a towel to make a neck roll to lay on at least 20 minutes per day, along with neck excercises. If you want more info. let me know.

take care

I went through similar issues. I have been seeing a chiropractor and it has made a huge difference. My chiropratcor has been great and really explained what was going on with my body. I'm not sure where you are located but she is in Fort Worth. It's Dr. Nicole Sharp at 4634 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth, TX 76107. Her number is ###-###-####. She is the best!!

Have you tried not carrying them as much to see if you have less pain? You might experiment with that some & see what happens. You could also get a massage & see if that helps. You could also soak in your bathtub with some epsom salts, that is supposed to help with body aches & soreness. Your 3 yr old is probably too heavy for you to be carrying around anyway.

YES! And I too recommend a chiropractor.

I had spinal xrays and it showed a curvature which was caused by carrying my kids on the right side (we assume), along with the beginnings of a bone spur on one of the lower vertebra from being out of alignment for so long - it was putting pressure on the nerves coming out of that area. The chiropractor visits got me straightened out (pun intended) and I'm feeling much better now.

Also, while my back was bothering me I woke up one morning and the pain was so intense, I was unable to walk or support my own weight and fell to the floor! I dragged myself to the phone to call the neighbor for help!! After several weeks of adjustments, I finally realized what was causing my hip to get rotated out of place...I was reading to my kids in a chair and my older son (age 4 at the time) was always sitting partly on the arm of my chair and partly on my hip bone. As soon as I stopped letting him do that, recovery went very quickly and I haven't been to the chiropractor in probably 6 months!

Also sitting too much can cause lower back and hip pain (and shooting pains down the legs, and weakness in the big toes due to pinched nerves) - I had some compression (?) in my lower vertebrae and had to use an inversion table to stretch that area out and allow the accumulating fluid go back into the proper area. (sorry I don't recall the technical terms for that) ;)

Yes, the little people still take their toll on us, even after birth! ;) Let your little ones walk more, it's good for them and mom. :)
