The only breadmaker I have is my own two hands. Works like a charm though! lol! I love homemade bread too.

However, my mom had a Sunbeam (I think) breadmaker that she used for years. Seemed to do the job pretty well.

But do try making it by hand. It's very satisfying. You said you're German....I have a fantastic Kraut Kuchen recipe if you want. Just message me. I've also used the bread from the recipe to make Spaghetti Kuchen which was AMAZING. Let me know.... And have fun!

PS: Kneading bread dough is a great way to work out some tension! lol!

hello,
i have zojirushi for 2 years, i think it's the best one on the market. I use it every 2-3 days and very happy with it. It took some time to come up with a recipe i like, but you will not make with it the same bread you buy in a backery. Now i'm experimenting with sourdough starter, which can't be baked in machine. It takes a little bit more work, but bread is so much better, just like from backery - that what i was looking for. But still, i'm not going to say bye-bye to my zojirushi.

I have a Sunbeam and a friend has a Regal.

But a few months ago I also switched to making bread by hand. And actually, since it's so much healthier and nutritious, we bought a Bosch mixer and a Nutrimill Grain Grinder during an awesome Mother's Day sale, grind the grain fresh, and now make six loaves at a time. I freeze three or four loaves and one loaf is usually eaten within an hour or two of coming out of the oven, LOL!

This is the recipe that I use for all my dough.

She also has a wonderful PDF file all about bread making, grains, the ingredients and what they are for, and tons of tips and techniques. I think the link to it is on her home page.

I make her basic dough recipe for some loaves, and then put dough back in the mixer and add things like cheese and herbs for a yummy bread, cinnamon and raisins for a breakfast bread, and also use it for pizza dough, cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, homemade veggie and chicken pockets, and more. Everything has always turned out yummy!

There's a lot of trial and error, so don't get discouraged if you make a mistake and it doesn't turn out quite how you planned!

Oh, and I found the dough enhancer and vital wheat gluten at a Natural Health food store. Honestly, I never thought to check at a regular grocery store. The Saf Instant Yeast has to be bought online, but it's worth it! It lasts a long time and works SO much better than the dry yeast you find at the regular grocery stores.

Good luck!

I have a zojirushi, the small 1-lb loaf. Got it from Amazon (free shipping too). It makes bread, jam, pizza dough, pasta dough... (I assume other brands also make this?) I use it at least once a week since Nov-07. Its good quality.

I would suggest you figure out what size loaf you want.... That will determine the size of bread machine.

I agree with making it by hand but i get tired of kneading i use my kitchen aid mixer and works great I knead in mixer for about 5 min. totally worth the buy. My mom has bread maker itried it but didn't like how bread turns out.
Goodluck

I have an Oster. I think they are pretty cheap
I don't like baking the bread in the bread maker, though. I don't think it get's hot enough, so the bread doesn't have the desired consistency (hard crust, moist crumb).
I use my dough setting to prepare the dough and not have to deal with the kneading and rising and then form it by hand and bake in the oven.
Lately I have really gotten the hang of it and it's been turning out great.
Good luck!

I have the Breadman. My daughter bought it for me for Christmas because I am gluten intolerant and have to make my own bread. I love this breadmaker! It's so easy and the bread is wonderful. She got it at Kohl's. I can't believe there could be an easier breadmaker on the market than this one.
