A friend is getting married in November and I want to get her something useful for the planning. What did you find useful when you were planning your wedding?

What can I do next?

As far as planning. Barnes and Noble has some awesome books where the pages are actully pockets so you can keep everything together. Those infomerical (sp?) folders that fold out and then fold out again would be nice and compact.

Also, any help that you are willing to give or can stand to give is always nice.

Our coffeemaker. Used it every day until we got a Keurig last Christmas. Now we use that everyday. :)

Like do you mean something useful for her right now in planning the wedding or do you mean a wedding gift? If you're talking for planning, well I used this really cute note holder, legal pad size, that was decorative and cute and I kept all my info in it...things from my vendors, notes I needed, phones numbers, etc. This may not be as useful any more since the invention of the smart phone, but I'm sure she still has a lot of papers, etc.

If you mean a wedding gift, I'd wait for her registry and get something you know she needs!

My mother-in-law. :-)
Honestly, since she was more familiar with the area where we were getting married, she did a lot of the legwork and presented me with a narrowed down list of choices. Maybe simply helping and taking some of the load off your friend's back is the best thing. And don't forget a break for a foot massage!

Maybe start her a webpage for newly engaged couples. Its something that the people who know the couple can read up on like When , where, how the couple met, where they plan to have/host the wedding, engagement pictures, maps, people can leave posts and well wishes to the couple, all that fun stuff. Even if you cant do it all at least you could find a site that offers this for her and start it and maybe fill in what you can and then fire it off her way to clean it up
Just a thought
Good Luck

Are you talking useful, as in household?

It depends on if they have been living together already or not. Because if they are then you have to find out what she doesnt have, or needs.

If they havent been living together then you have more of a variety of what to get her.

Useful things I received, was a microwave, because hubby and I didnt have one, and also a grocery gift card too.

Towels are always really nice to receive, you can even get ones with their initials.

If its for wedding planning, something I found very useful was 2 excell spreadsheets. One to do with vendors and in which I tracked contract dates, and payments. The second had lists of invitees to various things i.e. wedding shower, rehearsal, wedding, and the after party, and had fields for date sent, response and headcount. It was great to have running totals on everything. Then the last and really low tech thing that proved excellent in terms of wedding planning was a stack of post it notes and paper plates. We used these in working out the seating arrangement. Much more flexible than paper worksheets. set up the excell spreadsheets and give them to her on a thumb drive, together with a pack of pretty paper plates and two or three colors of post its to reflect his guests, her guests and the wedding party. congrats to your friend.
