Bug Band or Other Mosquito Repellant

Is anyone using this product for mosquitoes? Is it effective? Do you like, or not like it? It says it lasts for 120hrs, how are you tracking this? I have been using Burts Bees and BabyGanics, but both of these are oily and I have to squirt in my hand then apply (a little messy). I'm looking for something my almost 4 yr old could possibly do on her own (hence the bug band) and or, just has a spray mist and goes on easily that I can use for us. I'm looking for an all natural product.

Is there a product you like, and why?

TY!!

What can I do next?

You could always try the Off Clip-On. I've never used it, but I have relatives who I have seen using it every 4th of July since the company came out with it, so it must be at least somewhat effective, or they wouldn't keep using it! :)

I haven't tried the bug band, but I'd like to! Looking forward to your responses!

I use the OFF family bug wipes for my son... we NEED the heavier stuff because the mosquitos are abundant @ our boat club, and the baby has the sweet meat ;) I like the wipes because they're not messy and oily like sprays, and I can just wipe down the bite-prone places while keeping it off his face and hands :)

I have never used the bug band, but I found California Baby bug spray. It is all natural and smells good. You just have to reapply it now and then. They sell it at most Target stores.

How funny! I was just cleaning my cupboard today...and came across my bug bands..then read this! So, that should answer your question...no, I did not find them effective. My son is very allergic to mosquitoes. We can all be fine, and he looks like he has measles after an outdoor dinner! lol! Poor kid! I am like you...I want NATURAL products. I also use the burts bees. I agree, it is kind of oily and strong smelling...but it works! I recently tried another product called Bug Ban from Now. It is a natural cream. I thought it might be neater than the BB oil. Well, I do find it just as effective, but it is kind of an oily cream, and a stronger smell. It might be a little easier for your daughter to use. FYI, you can buy either at this great website called Lucky Vitamin. They sell TONS of natural vitamins and personal products for CHEAP!

I take it that you want this for around your home. If that is the case, I'd recommend a bug whacker instead. I hate using a mosquito repellant if I don't have to.

I had 5 acres next to a public park that had lots and lots of places for mosquitos to breed. When it got dusk, we had to go inside because the mosquitos made it impossible to stay outside. I couldn't use our above ground pool or even take a walk and enjoy the park and woods.

I got a 1/4 acre bug whacker. I went to the butcher and got some beef liver and asked for extra blood. (Yes, the butcher will look at you like you've lost your mind.) I hung the bug whacker in a tree about face high between my home and the park. I hung the beef liver and blood under the bug whacker as close to the bug whacker as I could get it. I turned the bug whacker on at dusk. The next morning, I went out and the light was completely blocked from sight by all the dead mosquitos. I unplugged the bug whacker and got all the mosquitos out. I plugged the bug whacker back in. I did this for two weeks. Each morning the grid was so full of mosquitos I couldn't see the light. About the end of the third week I could see a little of the light. By the end of the month I got just a few mosquitos and started getting flies.

Why does this work with liver and not just by itself? Mosquitos are not attracted by just the light. They are attracted by the blood because the female mosquito needs blood before it can reproduce and lay its eggs. Only female mosquitos can bite.

By the end of three weeks I could use my pool at night and not be bothered by mosquitos. I could be outside at night and use my grill. No more mosquitos.

BEWARE: ONE CAUTION . . . if endangered species use mosquitos as their sole source of food, this will cause them to starve to death. This will also cause your electricity to go up about $10 to $15 per month.

Good luck to you and yours.
