I'm totally freaked out. I just took my son to his 6 month checkup. Everything was good, his weight gain, height, head size, etc was good but the doctor noticed a pea sized lump on the top of his head where his soft spot is. He hasn't had any head injuries and the doctor said he could tell it was not from bumping his head. He said we need to get and ultrasound to find out if it is brain tissue. He said it could also be a cyst or maybe just part of his scalp. I was shocked when he said all of this so I didn't think to ask questions but now I have tons to ask. The ultrasound isn't until Tuesday so until till them I am stuck thinking the worst until we get the test results and I get to talk to the doctor again. Have any of you heard of anything like this? If so what was it and how did they treat it? I don't think this is common so I'm not really expecting to find anyone who has dealt with this before but I just thought I'd try. Any info anyone could provide would be great.
I had a friend who had the same thing happened to her with her little girl. My friend was so scared about the results but they came back normal and her daughter is fine. Try not to think about the what ifs, wait until you get the results because it really could be nothing.

I do not know much about your exact questions however I would recommend calling the Drs. office. First write down a list of all of your questions so you don't forget. Then call & talk with the nurse. Most offices have a nurse that does phone calls only and other places will have your nurse (that works with your doctor) call you back. They will be able to pull your sons file and answer almost any question you might have... if they can't answer it because they don't know or their not allowed to then they will have the doctor call you. There is no reason to wait until next Tuesday. I would call first thing tomorrow morning just so you can have all your questions answered before the weekend.
I know that knowing that even a possiblity that something could be wrong with your child is FREAKY. But try and remain calm. I would call my PED if you have more questions, but I honestly don't think that he will be able to tell you to much because he does not yet know the results. Also be careful with the "what if questions" before you get the results. A what if question can and will cause you to freak out even more. I am hoping that its nothing. He could have simply bumped his head on his crib, maybe the bath products you use, the lotion,...It can come from anything. Just relax and take it easy. Tuesday will be here before you know it.
First thing, if you have more questions, call your ped. That's what they are there for. Next, I know how hard it is, but try to relax until you know anything for certain. I know this is easier said than done, from experience. At birth, my son was born with the typical "cone head". But, it didn't round out. They took xrays & thought that the normal openings in their skulls for brain growth had prematurely closed. My son was 2 days old & the peds at the hospital are sending us to a brain surgeon. Yes, major freak out. Well, after an MRI? of his head & seeing this surgeon every several months for a year things are fine. Also, what helped us, was some research on our own. Ask your ped for a name for this problem, if it has one. Again, try not to freak out, but for us, it gave us some info on what to expect. And, God forbid, but if your son does need surgery, we saw Dr. Scott Elton. He was very nice & took all the time we needed with all the questions. He is a prediatric neurosurgeon at Columbus Children's Hospital. But, I hope with all my heart that you never get to meet him.

Try not to freak out with worry until Tuesday as I am sure whatever it is he will be fine. This happened to one of nieces actually when she was around the same age. Her too was right by her soft spot. The Pediatrician referred her to a plastic surgeon (Dr. Lehman - he is suppose to be the best in Akron)and they found out it was a cyst. So he recommended that they have it removed (I can't remember the reason why but I do know it grew larger as time went by and the Doctor said it would not go away on its own). Anyway, she had the surgery over 2 years ago and she is perfectly fine, healthy, etc. She has a little scar on her head but her hair covers it (she has an identical twin sister so it helps us to tell them apart - ha ha lol!)So take care and try not to worry too much and keeps us posted on what happens.
