Ok so we have finally made up our mind. We are going to San Diego (not Florida). This is what we have planned. Sea World (full day) Beach (until we are sick of it), Whale watching tour (half a day), Disneyland (maybe), and alternatives are a tour of Hollywood, and a tour of Tiajuana (mexico). Has anyone done any of the tours? Were they worth it? I plan to stay in a cheaper hotel near Sea World, I just need to find one now. My kids are 11 and 4 and I want to do something for EVERYONE (mine is the whale watching).

What can I do next?

Hi, S....

I have spent 3 summers in San Diego when I was on staff with CCC working with students. Sea World has a lot of things to keep you busy (most of our students worked there). They do have lockers and stuff, and you can exit the park and get back in if you need some down time. I'm not sure about hotels, as we were there for the long summer and were in Mission Beach. My hubby and I have had good luck pricelining hotels, so you might try that or see if you can get a deal through a travel agent on a package. The beach is nice. Mission and Pacific beaches have your typical boardwalk feel. Belmont Park is down on Mission Beach--it has a wood roller coaster and some other rides. Pacific Beach also has a boardwalk at it's end. Mission Bay is nice, too. It's across Mission Blvd from the beach, but is a bit quieter with a walking trail around it. If you go down to La Jolla, there are seals that hang out on the big rocks and there is a park/beachy area. I haven't done the whale watching, though have heard it's fun. Disneyland and California Adventure are fun...California is not so crowded and you can get a park hopper if you want to go back and forth. TJ (Tijuana) is a unique experience--you just may want to check into the passport thing with the changing policies...not sure when that goes into effect. You might want sunscreen, bottled water, and toilet paper/kleenex if you go over. Shopping is good. One thing you can do in the city is spend a day doing a trolley tour. The trolley tours start in Old Town, and you can basically ride the loop for the day--you just have to make sure you catch that last trolley back to old town at the end of the day. You can get off at any or all of the stops, and it takes you to all of the highlights of San Diego. Some of the stops include downtown (Gaslamp Quarter), the Harbor (which has the Midway Aircraft Carrier and The Star of India ship you can pay to tour--you can also pick up whale watching there, too), Balboa Park (all kinds of great gardens and museums), the San Diego Zoo, and Coronado (make sure you go get ice cream up at the Hotel!). It can be a nice option because you can pick and choose whereever you like and move on whenever you want. The website for Old Town Trolleys is http://www.trolleytours.com/San-Diego/ You also get a San Diego Day Planner booklet with the ticket. Old Town has great Mexican food. They offer a 1 or 2 day trolley pass, which if you know you want to see and get around a lot without having to take a rental car, it might be worth it. Also, if you like nature, Torrey Pines nature reserve is north of the city and is beautiful. There are probably a lot of other things, so feel free to email me if you have more questions. Sorry about the long reply, but I do love San Diego!
:) Have a great trip--
V.

When we stayed in San Diego, we stayed at the Days Inn Hotel Circle. It was cheap enough but for the location, it was awesome!! It is so easy to get everywhere from there. And it has an outside pool. And you can get to real restaurants really easy from hotel circle. And a Target is near by too so if you are like us and usually forget stuff you really need, you can get it there. And then getting to the beach is super easy and only like 10 minutes from the hotel. Mission Beach is where we took the boys and there is the Boardwalk at Belmont Park right there at the beach. Dave and the boys rented boogie boards and had a blast.
I have some of our San Diego pictures up on our myspace page if you want to check them out. http://www.myspace.com/mnmomma1 click on the pics link under our picture that says view my: pics
Also if you stay at Hotel Circle, it is just a hop skip and a jump to Old Towne. Really neat. We ate at the Coyote Cafe for dinner and it was soooooooooo good!! You can see the girls outside of some of the restaurants making fresh tortillas. Kind of fun to watch. We never did the Tijuana tour. I had heard it wasn't worth it, but who knows. At Seaport Village, you can go over the bridge to Coronado, but we didn't. My parents did. We really wanted to do the duck tour, but ran out of time. Your kids would probably like that. I could go on and on about our San Diego trip from last summer, but I'll shut up :>) I just had such a blast and really want to go back!

Good Choice! I love CA!

Anything you do is going to be fun! Tiajuana is cool but I wouldn't bring my child there...ever. There is just too many variables.

Hollywood would be way more fun and less stressful. Plus there is a higher possibility of seeing stuff you have seen on tv which is always fun for kids. Something else to look into is being in the studio audience for one of thier favorite shows. That is a really fun experience too. Also the Griffith Observitory is amazing. Awesome veiws of the Hollywood sign and all of LA really. If you can time being up there for the sunset I swear you will not regret it.

My Favorite semi-fast food resturaunt out there is Wahoo's Fish Taco. It is a little like Chipotle but with WAY more menu options. Plus the guys that own it are surfers so there is really awesome decor with surf boards and stuff like that. When we go there we usually eat there everyday or every other at least....yum!

Have Fun!
