Can Anyone Recommend Books?

My friend's daughter is going through a rough patch at the moment, its probably nothing more than the typical trials of a teenage girl, but she has been very unhappy recently, she is not very respondant to usual methods of help, like talking to people, my son recommended we get her a book.

He said Catcher in the Rye really helped him when his father and I divorced and again through other difficult times in his life, but I don't know if thats really an apropriate book to give to a 15 year old girl.

So if anyone has suggestions of fictional books, that helped them through a difficult time, preferably one that revolves around the kind of challenges teenagers go through, that would be really helpful.

Suggestions for boys and for girls would be welcome.

What can I do next?

The Hunger Games trilogy. Lots of overcomers there.
The Ocean at the End of The Lane by Neil Gaiman. It's my new-favorite.

Check out this list. Remove all the cheezy vampire novels and it's a pretty good list. http://www.npr.org/2012/08/07/157795366/your-favorites-10...

Dear Teen Me. Look for it on Amazon. It's a bunch of letters tha bunch of somewhat famous adults wrote to themselves as teenagers. They talk about things they had, ints they wish they hadn't done, shared words of wisdom, theirs hopes and dreams, and whatever else they wish they had known as teens.

Hoe this helps.
