Can Stretch Marks Be This Deep?

During the pregnancy years, I never developed any classic stretch marks on either abdomen or breasts.

But, my 3rd baby sat very low in my pelvic region, which pushed my pelvic bones out for a long time. She was even born with an odd shaped cone head on her forehead which cleared in a month or so. But I have these very deep used to be purple, but are now skin tone marks right at the pubic hair line, which is right be ow my old C-Section line, but they feel more like holes in my skin. I can literally stick my finger into them, which is too weird for me, so I refrain. But everyone once in a while while applying lotion, my fingers will trip over the depth.

Is it normal for stretch marks to be this deep? It feels like the muscle is split in addition to the skin.I always forget to ask my MD about this minor issue and my last baby turns 10 this week.

Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

Wow Proud, I feel silly asking about my couple of little deep marks compared to you. Your situation sounds severe. I'll count my blessings now.

like someone said, it could be your abs split. i knew that had happened after my first pregnancy so when i had my second c-section, i had the dr sew me back up. unfortunately he could only get up to my belly button so my upper abs are still split and i'm working with a physical therapist to put them back. you need them for proper back support. anyway, here are similar exercises that she is having me do http://www.best-abs-exercises.com/stomach-vacuum.html. note that regular sit-ups and crunches can make the gap wider, so you have to be careful.

I'm pretty sure it's normal only because I'm literally covered from breasts to even the back of my calves in stretch marks all from pregnancy. My last child who is now 5 left areas of my skin extremely thin and even now some of the marks are extremely deep. Needless to say I don't touch those areas often as it kind skives me out to know that my skin is that thin and those areas are so deep with the stretch marks. At one time certain areas would actually bleed a bit for the first few years after having my son, thankfully things are "healed." I've never asked my doc about it.

I have a few super deep stretch marks. I wouldn't use the term 'normal' (but I wouldn't 'abnormal' either)... it's say these are severe.

Your abs are probably split, mine are, I can actually stick my fingers in there and feel my guts.

The stretch marks you can't do anything about (it's like stretching an elastic band too far; it will never go back)... if you have split abs, you may need to have them repaired (I do) for medical reasons.

Ha! Oh honey, I am in the same boat.
The answer is YES!

Trust me, I've had a full tummy tuck, and I still have "rivets" from my stretch marks...even after all of that skin has been pulled flat!

For some of us, the prospect of smooth belly skin again is but a pipe dream. :)

Yes, I have stretch marks just like those. When pregnant with my twins (combined for 16lbs of baby), my entire abdomen was covered, front and back, with stretch marks. And, mine, too, go all the way down to my calves and to my private area. Then when my milk came in, since it was for two babies, gave me very wide stretch marks on my breasts. But, the ones on my lower abdomen actually sink in like yours, and I can put my finger "in" them.

The funny thing is, when I had my daughter (10.7 lbs), I thought there was no way I could get anymore stretch marks based on how big I was before. Oh, no, more were added to the collection!

I have extremely deep stretch marks also. Both my pregnancies were very low and I stuck straight out - like a pointy bullet. People would make comments bc I looked different than your average pregnant woman (that got old fast). The stretch marks that are the deepest are the ones lower and on the sides of my belly. But I have very strong vivid stretch marks from above my belly button to my pubic hair and wrapping around both sides. It sucks...but I have my 2 kids and so it was worth it.
