Bitter Apple. I haven't bought it for awhile, but I believe it comes from the pet store. If not, I'm sure it's available online. It doesn't harm anyone and the cats hated it. Even when the smell of it wore off, the effect stayed.
Hi everyone,
I have been having an issue with cat(s) spraying on our front door. I am wondering if anyone has any advice as to how I can deter them from spraying on my door. I don't want to do anything inhumane, I just want to make our front area less appealing to them as I am getting tired of constantly cleaning it. It smells and it's just plain gross! Thanks!

Thank you so much everyone! I am going to try all of your suggestions and see if it helps. Just for the record because someone questioned below, these are not my cats these are stray cats. I do have two cats of my own, but they stay inside. This could be part of the issue though. Thanks again!

Clean the area with a vinegar solution and then put moth balls outside the door to keep the cats from coming back.
Moth balls keep cats away.
My mother in law has the same problem and she places moth balls around her porch and yard the cats stay away and it doesn't hurt them.
Hi J.-
There are some products out there to repel both dogs and cats. They do not smell very good, but they do work. The one I am currently using has to be applied daily, but both dogs and cats avoid any surface it is sprayed on. Honestly, I hate it, too, but it should be much better outdoors- The product is called Simple Solution Indoor/ Outdoor Repellant. I don't think you can use it on plants, if that is also a concern.
Hope it helps- S.
Rosemary keeps the cats away. We had a flower garden by our porch that was the neighborhood litter box until we planted rosemary.
Neutering is really the only way that this will stop, however sometimes it dosn't completely stop even wtih that sadly. You didn't state if these are strays or your cats...if they are strays and you have motivation and money you can trap them, get them neutered, and then release them back to the colony. If not, then trying following the suggestions already given...dealing with strays spraying is really difficult without investing in getting them fixed.
